With great joy, next week I start my new role at SmartBear -- a market-leading provider of products that give development teams the visibility and confidence to do their best work.
For me, the moment represents several reunions. First off, I'll be working for the inimitable Madhup Mishra, whom I've known through various Boston-area product marketing events and professional groups. Secondly, in a throwback to my Nuance days, I'll be working alongside Dan Faulkner and Moshe Kogos, both key influencers of my early career and both people I profoundly trust. Likewise, I'll be reunited with rockstar Maggie Bean, whom I had the pleasure of hiring and collaborating with back when I was building the product marketing team at Validity. Finally, I'll be rejoining the Vista Equity Partners portfolio -- back in my Bullhorn days, Vista gave my career a destination via their HPLP leadership program.
As is increasingly the case for searches at this stage in my career, I could not have found this role so quickly without the help of mentors, friends, former co-workers, and other network connections who went out of their way to meet with me, be a sounding board, and encourage me during my search.
I especially want to call out Neil Baron for his steady, consultative presence over the last several months, as well as other members of the Product Executive Forum which Neil runs under the auspices of the Boston Product Management Association (BPMA). Besides first meeting Madhup through that group, I also reconnected with Madhup last fall at the Product Marketing Alliance Boston event, so I have that group to thank as well.
To those of you out there still searching, I see you. I know how it feels: the self-doubt, the grinding through companies to research, the calls and emails that aren't always returned. It can be rough. What I can say is to keep going, keep believing in yourself, keep tracking your activities, and keep meeting more people. Then when you do land that position, don't stop -- keep expanding your network of trust and pay it forward.
To that end, please reach out if you're a product marketer looking, especially in the Boston area. Perhaps I can point you to companies looking for someone like you.
