Here's a story that I absolutely love: There was a potter who separated his apprentices into 2 batches The 1st batch was tasked to make 1 PERFECT piece of pottery... whereas the 2nd batch was tasked to make 100 pieces of the same pottery. Which batch do you think created the best piece of pottery? The 1st? No The 2nd batch had so much repetition in making that 1 simple pot that it just started becoming second nature to them... hence they had the better pot. In summary, Volume + consistency gives RESULTS.

Ever considered the journey of your drinking water? 🚰 ... or the importance of a well thought-out and executed change management plan? Both topics often fade into the background until circumstances thrust it into focus. For me, with water, it was witnessing the lead poisoning crisis in Washington, DC, and later, facing water cuts in an upscale Mexico City neighborhood - I eventually even wrote my Masters' thesis at The Johns Hopkins University about it. Consider these water truths: 1️⃣ Water is essential for survival. 2️⃣ It is finite—many regions, including the West, perch atop nearly depleted aquifers. 3️⃣ Water agencies must stay ahead to keep our taps flowing. Why share this? Well, diving into DC Water's 2023 report, I marveled at their profound decade-long transformation—a remarkable 180-degree shift. Formerly DCWASA, they emerged as water management pioneers, a testament to commendable change management. 🌐 Explore DC Water's Journey: https://lnkd.in/e4VJZNqU In a future where water scarcity is more than a looming threat, this evolution reflects a broader need for water agencies to drive change, emphasizing the importance of well-executed change management. Let's not forget the impact of local issues on this global challenge. 💧 #WaterManagement #Innovation #ChangeLeadership #ChangeManagement #Sustainability #Equity 🚰
Our 2023 Annual Report - now available at https://lnkd.in/e4VJZNqU – details the many ways that DC Water delivers more than just exceptional drinking water and wastewater services to the nation’s capital. The theme is ‘Water Equity for All’ and we hope you will take a few minutes to read about how we are working to deliver equity to our employees, customers and communities through efforts like the Clean Rivers Project, Lead Free DC, DC Water Cares, DC Water Works, our apprenticeship program, and by offering contracting opportunities to certified small, local and disadvantaged businesses.

There's no 'one size fits all' career pathway. That's why we work with our stakeholders, communities, and participants to develop tailored programs that meet their needs. The AGA Multi-Industry Pathway Program is a great example of our collaborative approach. #employment #skills #education #support #vocationaleducation #VET #vibrantfutures
We're excited to announce the launch of our Year 10 Multi-Industry Pathway Program. Developed in collaboration with local Department of Education staff and Vocational Education and Training (VET) specialists from Deakin University. The program is designed to help Year 10 students stay engaged in their education and choose the right path for Years 11 and 12. Over six months, students learn the basics of various industries including Automotive, Electrical, Plumbing and Building & Construction. Highlighting the success of the program is Bevan Troia, a Year 10 student from Taylors Lakes Secondary College, who successfully completed the program at our purpose-built training facility. Now, he’s more confident about his career choices and finishing Years 11 and 12 before eventually pursuing an Apprenticeship in Building and Construction. Proudly part of IntoWork Australia. “Human greatness is not discovered until it is tested; we must be hardened against fortune by fortune itself“
🌱🚧🌍 GROWTH AND OPPORTUNITY: Planting Seeds and Watering Them 🌱🚧🌍 I had an incredible opportunity today to represent both the North Atlantic States Carpenter Training Fund and Turner Construction, and I wanted to share my experience with all of you. It was a moment that truly emphasized the power of growth and opportunity, and how they can only materialize when we plant seeds and water them. Today, I had the privilege of joining the Chelsea Collaborative and MBK 617 (pre apprenticeships) on a tour of Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain. Our goal was to enlighten and inspire pre-apprentices about the various phases of construction they could be involved in, should they choose to pursue a career as union carpenters. As we walked through the hospital, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and possibility in the air. The pre-apprentices were eager to learn and absorb everything they could about the construction industry. It was a beautiful sight to witness their curiosity and passion. During our tour, we discussed the importance of planting seeds by acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge. We emphasized the value of education and training, as these are the seeds that lay the foundation for growth and success. We encouraged the pre-apprentices to seize every opportunity to learn and grow, knowing that their efforts will be rewarded in the future. But planting seeds is just the first step. To ensure growth and opportunity, we must also water these seeds with support and mentorship. We must create an environment where these pre-apprentices can flourish and thrive. That's where organizations like Chelsea Collaborative and MBK617 come in - they provide the necessary resources, guidance, and support to help individuals reach their full potential. The experience at Faulkner Hospital reminded me of the immense power we have to shape the future. By investing in the next generation and empowering them with the tools they need, we are not just building structures, but also creating opportunities for personal and professional growth. So, let's continue to plant seeds of knowledge, skills, and opportunities. Let's water them with support, mentorship, and guidance. Together, we can cultivate an environment where growth and opportunity are nurtured, and where dreams can blossom into reality. #GrowthAndOpportunity #PlantingSeeds #WateringThem #ChelseaCollaborative #MBK617 #ConstructionIndustry #UnionCarpenters #EmpoweringTheNextGeneration

I know I bang on about this a lot... but someone has to... What does the future of traditional crafts hold? I regularly see articles about historical sites having to shut due to safety concerns. With a decline in people entering the traditional trades industry what is the solution? College’s not running courses anymore, Advanced craft now isn’t running in Glasgow for this year at least… We need more people coming through The more people coming through the apprenticeship route means more qualified tradespeople caring for our historic landmarks. But how is this achievable when the government is cutting funding and colleges are stopping stonemasonry courses? What do you think we can do to solve this growing issue? "𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙚, 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚, 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚." #restoration #stonemasonry #conservation #stratummasonry #stonemasonglasgow #stonemason #stonemasonedinburgh #stonemasonhelensburgh #stonemasonscotland
