[Vietnam North-South Railway Update] 🔬Vietnam PM Orders 350 km/h High-Speed Rail to Boost Connectivity by 2035. Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has 📌mandated the #construction of a high-speed railway on the North-South axis, with a #design speed of approximately 350 km/h, primarily for passenger transport, aiming for completion by 2035. The #project will span 1,541 km, traversing 20 provinces and cities from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. During a meeting on July 11, Chinh emphasized the need for #strategic #innovation, advocating for the most efficient and shortest route. The railway should integrate passenger #transport with rapid freight capabilities and serve defense and security needs if required. Existing #railways will be upgraded for freight transport. Chinh underscored the importance of comprehensive research on total #investment, geographical and geological factors, and efficient capital #mobilization mechanisms. The government aims to approve the investment policy by 2025 and commence construction before 2030, prioritizing the Hanoi-Vinh and Ho Chi Minh City-Nha Trang sections in the 2026-2030 phase. The entire line is projected to be operational by 2045, with an estimated #investment of $67.32 billion. The Ministry of Transport had previously proposed a 350 km/h high-speed rail exclusively for passenger transport, capable of freight transport when necessary. The #rail line will be built with a double track, standard gauge of 1,435 mm, and an axle load of 17 tons. This initiative reflects Vietnam's commitment to modernizing its transport #infrastructure, enhancing economic #connectivity, and ensuring #sustainable development. 🖇Sources: Local media. #Strategic #Vietnam #News #Railway #Project #Futurism #Innovation

Experienced International Project Manager, Passionate about Sustainable Mobility - EUR ING MBCS CEng CITP
According to the consultancy consortium TEDI - TRICC - TEDIS, designing Vietnam's proposed North-South High Speed Railway (HSR), the project will comprise 23 passenger stations in 20 provinces, with 17 having 1 station each. There will also be 5 cargo stations, 2 of which will also be passenger stations. The five cargo stations will be in Hanoi, the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Nam (home to Hoi An City), Khanh Hoa (home to Nha Trang City), and Dong Nai Province next to Ho Chi Minh City. The ones in Hanoi and Ha Tinh will be used for both passengers and cargo. Ngoc Hoi station in Hanoi's Thanh Tri District and Thu Thiem Station in HCMC’s Thu Duc City will be the northern and southern ends of the line. The distance between stations will be a minimum of around 30 kilometres, but not all trains will stop at every station. The track will be an electrified double one of 1,435 mm gauge, designed for speeds of 350 kph. The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport has announced that the railway would be developed using domestic funds and technology to ensure better control over construction, technology transfer and long-term operations. #vietnam #highspeedrail #hsr #rail #project #design #publictransport #planning #green #mobility The full article can be found here: https://lnkd.in/dNZgGzkR

When I lived in Bangkok, Thailand, I almost never had to face its infamous traffic congestion because the vast majority of my commutes/travels can now be done by Bangkok's urban rail-based transit network, i.e. the BTS (Bangkok Mass Transit System) Skytrain, MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), ARL (Airport Rail Link) and SRT (State Railway of Thailand) Commuter Rail. Bangkok has made significant effort in expanding and improving its public transportation system- in 2023 alone, 2 MRT monorail lines were completed and opened to the public. And it will continue to do so, with several more lines under construction or planned. Bangkok has shown that with willpower and effort, overcoming a car-centric urban landscape with public transportation is more than possible. https://lnkd.in/g9d3tTcy
