You know those things you do that just feel automatic? You don’t really give it too much thought and it happens so naturally that you can do it with your eyes closed? We all have those daily norms that are our defaults. And it makes sense because we can’t reinvent the wheel every single day. So we create our own norms and that’s how we go through the day. The problem is that we don’t always pause to check in with ourselves about if our daily norms are still right for us. Are they moving us forward or keeping you stuck? This week’s Monday Morning Pep Talk is all about observing your norms and creating your ideal. Let’s say your norm is rushing every morning and barely making it out the door. Perhaps you realize that you don’t really like the feeling of rushing so you want to change that… what if you just tried getting up 5 minutes earlier? Or maybe 10 minutes earlier? Give yourself a little more room. This isn’t about turning your life upside down it’s about making small shifts that help you get closer to ideal. What’s a daily norm that you want to shift to ideal? #BEmore

This week’s Monday Morning Pep Talk is inspired by the balance beam. Yes, the little 4 inch wide piece of wood that gymnasts flip and spin on! It’s such a challenging event and if you watched the Olympic finals, you probably saw that most of the athletes fell off. I remember a commentator saying something like, “You look where your eyes go.” He was giving a lesson on spotting… the idea that as the gymnasts are flipping they keep their eyes on the spot where they are going. It’s a way to help keep them oriented. And your body goes where your eyes go. It’s kinda like if you’re driving a car and you look at something, your car naturally drifts over to whatever you’re looking at. The same thing happens on the balance beam. I love this idea as it applies to life. Life is a balance beam. You go where you’re looking… what you’re focused on. If you’re focused on all the things not working, the problem, the drama, the things out of your control… guess where you’re going to end up? If you’re focused on your vision, the solutions, the joy, the things you can do something about, that’s where you end up. Spot where you want to be and keep that focus. This week, look at what you’re looking at. Where are you focusing? Then start spotting where you want to go. What are you looking at right now? #BEmore

I’ve loved watching the Olympics the last week! It’s always something I look forward to. One thing I’ve noticed is that there’s always more than one way to make it to the Olympics… be really good at one thing (a specialist) or be really good at several things (a generalist). And this week’s Monday Morning Pep Talk is all about helping you figure out which one you are and which one you want to be in the future. Let’s just start by saying that both are great! Look at Stephen Nedoroscik a USA men’s gymnast and Simone Biles, a USA women’s gymnast. I loved learning about and watching Stephen compete. He has one job on the team… dominate the pommel horse. He’s called a pommel horse specialist and he’s incredible at it. I’m sure he can do other events but he’s not. A few years ago he realized that his greatest contribution was to become one of the best at the pommel horse and so he did. When you watch him compete you see someone who is confident and focused. He’s not just phoning it in he’s a master! His talent helped get him and his team the bronze. Simone on the other hand is the best of the best! She’s a generalist because she can do so many different events at the highest levels. I mean she has like a million moves named after her on different events. She can move from event to event with ease and confidence in what she brings to the table. And even in her “weaker” events she’s still able to perform at a level that’s higher than others. She was able to contribute to help her team win Gold. There are some lessons here for us non-Olympians. This week we’re going to explore the specialist and the generalist, how to figure out which one you are and how to find success with your preferred type. Are you a specialist or a generalist by nature? #BEmore

You are meant for amazing things and anyone or anything that tells you otherwise is a lie! I’m on my last week of a break and I wanted to remind you that your life is supposed to be amazing. It’s your life!! I don’t believe that we’re here to just be miserable every day because what’s the point? Somewhere along the way we’ve started to believe that maybe amazing is just for other people. Or only parts of our life can be amazing. And we wait for someone or something else to make it happen. This week I want to encourage you to dial up the amazing in your life. Turn it up. Then turn it up some more. The best part is amazing is how you define it. What does it mean to you? What does it look like right now? What does it feel like right now? We’re not waiting for amazing, we’re creating amazing in the moment. Tell me one thing that makes your life feel amazing right now. #BEmore

Which one do you need most right now? Pause? Pivot? Persist? There’s a time and a place for each one, the key is figuring out what you need first in order to move forward. Pause when you need to reflect, recharge and figure things out. Pivot if the path you’re on isn’t cutting it anymore, but you know there’s another way. Persist if you just need to stay committed regardless of the challenges. This week’s Monday Morning Pep Talk is all about pausing, pivoting and persisting and knowing when to use each of these tools. And just remember, each one has its place. Pausing can lead to clarity. Pivoting can lead to new opportunities. Persisting can lead to progress. Think about something that you’re working on right now… what direction do you need to take? #BEmore

In this week’s Monday Morning Pep Talk, I shared 10 things that I’ve been thinking about or working on lately. Think of it as a Random Wednesday Thoughts approach to a Pep Talk… this was one of the things I shared… Sometimes you do things not because they feel “good” or they’re easy, but because they represent who you want to be. I’ve been challenging myself to do the harder things if they are the things that best represent who I want to be. So, I worked out on a Sunday morning because I knew this week was going to be full. I rested instead of going to a million Fourth of July parties. I said no to something that didn’t really feel in alignment with me, when in the past I would have said yes to be nice. Learning how to make decisions from the place of who you want to be versus who you are right now isn’t always fun. And you will want to go back to your old comfortable ways, but each decision you make that gets you closer to who you want to be is a step forward. Baby steps count too! What one thing can you do today that is closer to representing who you want to be? #BEmore

1. Friday I wrapped up my two year term as Chair of the Board of Regents at my Alma Mater. It has been such an honor to serve in that capacity and I’m incredibly proud of the work and accomplishments of the board. I can’t help but think back to when my friend and sorority sister Rachelle called me to ask if I would be interested in joining the Board. I’ll never forget she said, “we need your leadership.” I thought she meant because I would speak up about things. 😂😂 I would never have imagined I’d end up chairing this. And I hope she’d be proud. Thank you to the kind folks who have been serving on the Board these last few years. You have made it an amazing experience. Saturday I got to celebrate the 2024 graduates as a part of the graduation ceremony. Board members get to be a part of the ceremony. This class deserved the perfect graduation! I’m excited to welcome them to the alumni club! 2. My dear friend, Renee is wrapping up her PBS/KET show Connections after 19 seasons on air. I’ve often told her that she’s my Oprah because she’s truly the best at what she does. I’ve been lucky enough to be on the show a few times and I get to be one of her last guest on today’s episode. KET 11:30 AM EST. We’re talking about trends in the workplace and how organizations and teams can create better outcomes. I always love talking with her! Congratulations, Renee! You are loved and celebrated!! 🎉🎉 I’m embroidering the rest of the weekend! 🥰 #BEmore
