Halifax Wheelchair Rugby League Club, established in 2005, is a leading UK wheelchair rugby league team with a history of multiple titles. Founded by Malcolm Kielty MBE, the club champions inclusivity and disability sport, offering competitive play and community outreach. Based at Calderdale College, it runs school programs that unite children, both with and without disabilities. The club thrives on the dedication of local volunteers who support its ongoing activities and development efforts. With a £2,000 grant from John Good Group | Growing Businesses Together, the club will be able to purchase a junior wheelchair, removing the financial barrier for young players, allowing them to participate in the sport, and support the development of the next generation of wheelchair rugby league athletes. On average, families spend about $900 per season on each child participating in youth sport programs. For some active children, that can be as much as $3,600 a year for a parent. For some parents, that is $3,600 a year per child! Now imagine your child wanting to be active and wanting to be part of a team and you cannot afford it because of the price? Right now, costs are high and the economy is forcing everyone to be a bit more frugal. It happens. This Soccer Ball Support Fundraiser initiative has a collateral effect in which donating and supporting can offset some of the costs organizations have to charge parents & participants prior to the season starting. Therefore, we can help and promote more kids on the field and on a team to play, participate and remain active rather than remaining at home, inactive and most likely overusing technology for entertainment and distraction. The goal is to raise $10,000 by April 1st 2025, to purchase about 750 Soccer Balls (ranging from size 3, size 4 and size 5), distribute 10-15 new soccer balls and soccer bag to each program by Friday, April 31st 2025, and support a total of 50-75 local & underfunded soccer programs. The idea here is to pull a community together to do more with less and to prove that, together, we can all accomplish more. We seek to bring a blinding light to the power of a UNITED effort and our mission in UNITING the communities, within #NewJerseysOwn, through soccer. If your soccer program or organization can benefit from the Soccer Ball Support Fundraiser simply, fill out the Application Form here (we made it simple & easy): https://lnkd.in/e4-XHfxd You will be directed to a google form to fill out the information and submit the application. Thank you all for your consideration & support. Donate here: https://lnkd.in/e4-XHfxd Together, UNITED. #United #Support #Apply #Donate #Team

🌟 🏏 Calling all changemakers 🌟 🏑 Together, we have the power to pay it forward. 🌟 🎾 If you know me, you'll know I have that fatal combination; I have 'ideas' and a hard time saying 'No'. So, when the opportunity arose to do a bit of local fundraising by running a half-marathon, I couldn't resist. What was I thinking, right? Now, I'm not much of a runner, aside from the occasional Saturday 5k #Parkrun. But this isn't just about pounding the pavement. It's about investing in the future of sports participation for young people in our local area. This endeavor marks my biggest physical and mental challenge to date. #GreatBirminghamRun. Your donation will be the fuel that keeps me going during those grueling training sessions. You know the ones—when you'd rather do anything but run (what feels like endlessly) around the local park. But your donation isn't just a financial contribution. It's an investment in the dreams and aspirations of our young people. It's about nurturing a lifelong love for sports and physical activity. And in today's world, where the well-being of our young people is more crucial than ever, your support will make a tangible impact. Think about the teenagers and young adults in your life. You understand firsthand how essential it is for them to have access to opportunities that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Together, we have the power to pay it forward. Your generosity will provide the facilities, opportunities, and inspiration the next generation need to thrive and excel. So, I'm lacing up my trainers and hitting the pavement alongside a dedicated group of staff, parents, alumni, pupils and former staff. Together, we're showing our unwavering support for our sports community. Let's cross the finish line stronger, united, and proud of the difference we've made. Donate today 👇 and join me in becoming an ambitious FutureSports champion for young people. Together, we can make a lasting tangible impact. 💪 https://lnkd.in/eXG6ji8q https://lnkd.in/eEGf7da4 https://lnkd.in/etrQwVzR https://lnkd.in/e7fCQA83 #QMGS #Champions #Hockey #Fundraising #cricket #mentalhealth #Passion #Resilience #Leadership #TeamWork #Dedication #Running #MassParticipation #GreatBirminghamRun #RunningEvent #Birmingham #parkrun https://lnkd.in/e7KBC7Am

Time for a little distraction? The Olympics is a distraction, but also an inspiration, for everyone, not just the physical elite. The news has been full of the amazing accomplishments of medal-winning athletes for the past couple of weeks. But we hear little about all the support staff taking part in the event. For example, the judges, adjudicators, umpires and referees who help make this a fair and even playing field by enforcing the rules in the pools, courts arenas, and on the pitch and track. These people are also at the peak of their careers. They demonstrate commitment to their sport and model many of the same qualities as the athletes. Soccer referees and hockey umpires also need physical fitness and stamina to chase the ball and players around the pitch! Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games, 1908 said “The most important thing is not winning but taking part.” I like to think this includes everyone. If like me, you aren't a 'doing sports' person but enjoy getting involved you could find other ways to take part. Perhaps you could train to referee for a sport played locally or volunteer to marshall at races. I have recently joined the volunteer team at Norwich City Community Sports Foundation using my non-educator skills in my local community. It's a great way to feel part of something and help out in small ways. If you want to see what I do on my non-educator days, check out the news link below to which I contributed some photographs. https://lnkd.in/eT-Jh7Wt For me it will never be about winning, but all about taking part - how about you? #Olympics #CommunityService #Volunteer #NorwichCityCommunitySportsFoundation

On Boxing Day, historically, servants received gift boxes from employers and the wealthy shared resources with those in need. Today, let's reinvent this spirit of giving: Instead of boxes, give time. Organize a food drive—mentor youth. Support local shelters. Every hour served creates ripples of change in our communities. In what ways are you giving back this season? Share your community service stories below. #BoxingDay #CommunityService #GivingBack #SocialImpact"

Our next session with Bath Rugby Foundation underlines that as young entrepreneurs, you can learn from a wide range of areas. What can be taken from professional sports – team work, bouncebackability? And from the charity, importance of inclusivity and engagement..? #EntreConfGO All this and more is covered with our trio from Bath Rugby Foundation: Jonno Wood, Phil Owens and Liam Lintern. Through inclusion, education and social interaction, Bath Rugby Foundation builds life skills and develops confidence to improve young lives right across Bath and beyond. They helped over 4,000 children in the year 2022/23, changing young lives for the better. Jonno said: “Everyone deserves a shot, and everyone can help each other to turn their life around.” On working with young entrepreneurs: “When you’ve met one person, you’ve met one person. There are never the same types of personalities when meeting young and aspiring entrepreneurs.” Phil said: “When someone feels like they are underperforming, we ask what is happening and listen whilst also creating a safe space. Go with them on it but get an understanding of what they are going through. I’ve put myself in a good position in order to help get those who are struggling to get themselves in a good position, no matter how much time and support it takes.” Liam said: “Being in a dark place or discomfort feels like you’re at a crossroads not knowing what way to go. Young people do a lot of things to take away from conversations, e.g. trying to get attention on themselves by being removed from a lesson or throwing things around. My advice to get out of that dark place would be to celebrate the small wins as it will pick you up.” Safe spaces are different for a lot of people, and you need to create boundaries around it. Make a space that allows people to open up, be vulnerable and tell you what’s going on, and be confident in knowing you’re going to help them. 🦸🏼♂️ COMMUNITY HERO! I can’t even begin to describe the incredible work that this guy does for his community. It comes as no surprise that Jon Radford is a finalist for the ‘Community Focus’ category at the BFA awards, as he makes such an incredible impact across his local area. Jon came on board with the FFF with a mission to make football fun for the city of Exeter and to give back to his local community. His emotional ties to where he lives has resulted in a community-led approach which has inadvertently supersized his business. It’s so true that when you give more than you receive, you tend to win. Jon and his wife Becky give their community so much value through community-based initiative and here’s a few examples: 👉🏻 Decreasing anti-social behaviour through free football sessions in a local park. 👉🏻 Organising for participants to be mascots at Exeter City football matches. 👉🏻 Sponsoring Exeter City women’s team. 👉🏻 Growing female participation by running girls only sessions. 👉🏻 Delivering HAF funded activities and hot meals for children eligible free school meals, in the school holidays. I could go on and list loads more, but there’s a character limit! Jon’s values and love for his community has driven his business success. This isn’t a business development strategy though, it’s pure passion for giving children and families opportunities. Congratulations and well done Jon! #CommunityFocus #Finalist #BFAHSBCUKAwards2024 #CommunityBusiness
