What's the right level of transparency? Share too much info too soon and you could cause unnecessary concern, confusion, erode trust, etc. Share information too late and the result could be the same negative results. Get transparency right and you build trust, alleviate fears, avoid confusion, and more I was flying on Delta last week coming home from a great onsite planning event. 10 mins before we're set to start boarding thunder booms through the terminal. It starts to rain. The Delta representative comes over the speaker - "We won't be able to start boarding on time due to lightning. Thanks for your patience." Half the flight immediately texted or called to give someone a heads up. People started debating how bad the storm was, when it would clear, and if the lightning was really that bad. 10 minutes later - exactly on time - we were cleared to board. Boarding was smooth. Everyone who texted home to say we'd be late sent a update - "just kidding, we're on time." Flight crew is closing the overhead bins and going through their final checks. Pilot comes over the speaker - "We're a little delayed. The crew is a little behind in loading bags due to the storm, but we should still land at our destination on time." How many people texted home again? He was right. We landed a few minutes early. Was Delta too transparent? Or just transparent enough? As it turned out, they could have shared none of the behind the scenes info, and it would have been a perfect flight from our perspective. To share or not to share, that is the question. What's your experience with the benefits and risks of transparency?

What a powerful message for anyone to take! I often say you can’t give anyone something that you don’t have…If you don’t have love for yourself, how can you love another? If you don’t have the knowledge how can you educate others? The easiest way to make my point has been using money as an example. If you do not have a dollar or euro or peso or whatever, you cannot give anyone a dollar. It’s that simple. 🩷Learn to love yourself so that you can love others, educate yourself so that you can teach others, fill your cup so you may overflow into others cups.
A reminder of the importance of putting your own oxygen mask on first before helping others. We’ve all heard this safety spiel thousands of times, but if we don’t first help ourselves, how can we help others? After all, we’re all human. The more you understand these initiatives and their impacts, the easier the conversation is with your passengers on a bad weather day. If you plan ahead to mitigate these impacts, that conversation gets even easier.
