🤔Did you give up #chocolate in January and have you noticed the #easter Eggs in the supermarkets available now? Did you know that yesterday was known as Quitters Day as the most likely day you give up on resolutions? If yours was chocolate- are you still hanging on in there ? 🤔 Are you like me flummoxed on why to buy Easter eggs in January given Easter is March 31st? 🤔 Could you not eat them if you bought them now? The market is not small so you can understand it from the retailer perspective Total Easter sales including boxed confectionery reached an impressive £640 million CSV[Nielsen ] in 2023, which not only underscores the economic significance of Easter but also highlights the consumer enthusiasm for Easter. ✅ 80 million Easter eggs are given every year My cousin used to have a challenge to see how many Cadbury eggs he could eat - not at one go ( although I suspect that’s a lot) Data shows January is not too early . In 2023, 42% of Easter sales took place in January and February, driven primarily by unplanned impulse purchases. (Nielsen) 🤔 So my question is do they eat them and then re- buy? or show solid willpower ? 🤔 Do you have favourite Easter eggs to buy? I look for Rolo ones for my husband and toffee eggs for my Mum. 🤔 What do you buy? 🤔 Do you buy Easter Eggs now? #foodanddrink #marketingandadvertising #marketingresearch #retailers 🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣 Liked this post? Are the dates ok on the boxes. They seem to have missed out Valentines Day, surely that's before Easter. X
My go-to brands for chocolate are usually Valrhona, Caillebaut or Leonidas - I have a little shop that sells them just round the corner. I don’t buy Easter Eggs anymore but treat myself to a small 1-person box. Usually do lamb or rabbit and make a « boterlam » (butter chilled into the shape of a sheep via a little wooden mould).
I couldn't believe how quickly after Xmas easter arrived in the shops 🤷♀️😯
As soon as Christmas finished I noticed Easter eggs and hot cross buns in the shops
Colette Connors - As you well know, rate-of-sale is key metric in supermarkets. So it completely confuses me that Easter Eggs have been on-shelf since late December. And then discounting them well before Easter, cannibalising the sales of other chocolate. I wish a retailer would actually dare to explain this strategy of stocking Easter Eggs so early.
I have to admit I ate more than half of a Terry’s Chocolate MINT (orange) yesterday!! It was sooooooo!! Good!! I have seen Eastereggs already but I will resist for a while yet as Easter is a long way off and the Easter Bunny is still Hybernating!!
I'm sure Easter Eggs have gone up in price since last £1.50 for the little Cadbury ones...... Not that I was looking at them longingly I just happened to glance 😳🙄🤤

10moMust be down to some marketeers! 🤣 🤣 Time goes quickly enough without rushing things. Still if it brings a little joy to a few (whilst annoying the many) I guess we can live with it, after all we don't have to buy them. Best time to buy Easter eggs for me is Easter Tuesday, get some great bargains or more realistically get eggs at more value for money prices as they can be overpriced. "Chocolatiers" across France go to town with their creations and specialist eggs cost a small fortune though it's wonderful that the "creators" have such a passion for their work, as with all things culinary in France. January here is the month of "no alcohol" being promoted in TV ads.
