I am delighted to introduce SPRY Ally, a suite of AI-powered tools for rehab therapy. Launching SPRY Ally feels like a milestone, the journey has not been straightforward. For the past two years, we've been knee-deep in exploration, captivated by the potential of Gen AI. It's given that the recent advancements in Gen AI are poised to shake up the status quo, much like the revolutions we've seen with processors and the internet. Like many, we initially found ourselves swept up in the hype, eager to leverage AI to tackle any and every challenge in our path. Our first foray into the world of Gen AI led us to develop Spry Edge—a tool designed to simplify the process of creating Google My Business pages for Physical Therapists. With its promise of seamless patient acquisition at the click of a button, we anticipated rapid success. However, sometimes you win, and sometimes you learn. Despite our optimism, Spry Edge failed to gain traction, garnering less than 10 sign-ups after an extensive three-month campaign. But from this setback emerged a valuable lesson—a reminder to recalibrate our approach. So, we took a step back, recentered ourselves, and dove headfirst into the intricacies of the Physical Therapy workflow.  We were determined to craft solutions that genuinely addressed the needs of our customers. And thus, Spry Ally was born. Spry Ally represents the culmination of our dedication to marrying cutting-edge technology with a profound understanding of user needs. By leveraging Gen AI, we're now able to tackle challenges that once seemed insurmountable, revolutionizing the landscape of healthcare technology. You just want to help them out... Get them out of pain and back doing the things they have told you are important to them. Yet you give your patients some exercises to help them achieve this... And they do not do them!!! Frustrating. Confusing. Some might say rude. To solve this problem new grads usually do one of two things... 1. Change the patient's rehab or... 2. Label your patient as 'lazy' and conclude they do not really want your help. Both of these approaches fail. In the first case, the new exercises may motivate the patient for a few days at best... But unless you truly understand your patient's thoughts, feelings and beliefs around their injury (and how to cater for these as part of your treatment plan)... This motivation will rapidly fade and you'll be back at square one. And just to be clear. Most patient's are not lazy. This is an easy get out for physio's. I admit I labelled patient's 'lazy' as a new grad. I could not work out why patient's would not do their rehab, after all I was giving it to them to try help them. It was clearly their problem, not mine. They must not be arsed about getting better. How wrong was I! The reality is 9/10 patients that do not engage with your rehab plan DO want to get better... They just are unsure if YOUR rehab plan is going to work. It is a YOU problem... Not a patient problem. To keep your patient's adhered to your rehab plan... This starts with a great subjective assessment. If you ask the right questions, not questions about their injury and pain, you will understand the real reason your patient came to see you. You'll understand your patient's thoughts, beliefs and emotions around their injury and recovery expectations (all the things that can act as a barrier to a successful rehab plan)... And if you know how to use this information you can quickly and easily build patient rapport and trust... So you get patient's that take your advice and do what you ask (their rehab)... Electrical stimulation has gotten a bad rap in the world of rehabilitation. Despite its effective outcomes in certain situations, it has been over used by clinicians in an effort to increase their billable hours and reach productivity goals. Insurance companies have recognized this, and cut reimbursement for electrical stimulation to the point where is is no longer cost effective to offer it as a part of treatment, unless it is coupled with exercise, neuromuscular stimulation, or other active treatments that are reimbursed at a higher level.
