Will Interior Designers ever embrace BIM? The answer appears to be "not right now, I am too busy!". Let me explain.... I have observed that Interior Designers tend to take on more work relative to their staff size (as compared to Architects). And they are more "hands on" with every aspect of their projects, including doing lots of drafting themselves. This is environment where a BIM based workflow would create significant efficiencies. It would provide leverage so that a Designer could design, document and visualize at the same time in the same software. But often they are too busy to stop doing what they are doing. So they tend to stick with #sketchup and #autocad but then lose 10-30% of their time duplicating their work between 2D & 3D. This makes them even busier...and round and round we go. In continuation of my construction drawings series, various types of views are used to depict different aspects of the project 🏗 The most common types of views include: Plan View 📐 Also known as a top view or bird's-eye view, plan views show the project from above, illustrating the layout of floors, rooms, and spaces. Plan views are typically used to depict horizontal features and dimensions. Elevation View 🏠 Elevation views show the project from the front, side, or rear, providing a vertical representation of the building's exterior or interior walls, windows, doors, and other vertical elements. Section View 🔎 Section views cut through the building or component to show its internal structure or construction details. Sections are commonly used to illustrate building assemblies, such as walls, floors, roofs, and foundations. Detail View 🔬 Detail views zoom in on specific areas of the drawing to provide more detailed information about construction details, connections, or assemblies. Detail views are often accompanied by callouts and annotations to highlight important features. Isometric View ⚙ Isometric views present the project in three dimensions, showing all three axes i.e. length, width, and height. Isometric views provide a more realistic representation of the project's spatial relationships and are often used for conceptual design or visualization purposes. Perspective View 👁 Perspective views depict the project as it would appear to the human eye, with vanishing points and depth perception. Perspective views are commonly used for presentation purposes to convey the project's appearance and spatial qualities to clients or stakeholders. Perspective drawings show what the human eye perceives, so objects appear smaller the further away from the viewer, but with isometric designs, objects remain at the same size, no matter how far away they are Each type of view serves a specific purpose in conveying information about the project's design, construction, and spatial relationships. By having adequate access to different views, Quantity Surveyors are able to measure and takeoff more accurately, therefore leading to a more accurate project costing🌟📏 #ConstructionDrawings #QuantitySurveying

Embarking on a new 3D design project for a 2-bedroom house in AutoCAD? Here's your step-by-step guide. Begin by setting up your drawing. Open a new file, adjust units to Architectural, and set limits to 100 ft x 100 ft. Then zoom to the limits. Next, define your area. Draw a rectangle to mark the house perimeter, setting 35 ft in length and 60 ft in height for optimal structure. Create robust walls using the `OFFSET` command. Offset lines by your chosen thickness, like 9 inches, for both exterior and interior walls. It’s time to add rooms. Extend lines to outline different spaces, then use hatch patterns for room distinctions. Doors and windows come next. Use `POLYLINE` and `RECTANGLE` commands to draw their outlines, ensuring precise placement and size. BNIM is a design firm based in Kansas City, Missouri, that has built a national reputation for excellence in architecture, planning, interior design, and landscape architecture. As Dev Malik, BNIM Principal and COO, shares, BNIM leverages technology “to allow us to serve our clients better and more effectively.” ➡️ The Challenge: BNIM used keynotes extensively in Autodesk Revit to reference the specs. However, without a means to track the keynotes placed in the model, this process required tedious coordination. Reviewing every call-off on the drawings with the specs was both time-consuming and not feasible for large projects. With work schedules spanning all hours of the day and night, communication between modelers and specifiers was challenging, and specifier-generated keynotes slowed drawing development. As various Revit modelers selected and created their keynotes, a keynote manager was needed to support multiple users at the same time. Finally, with modeler-generated keynotes, the specifiers needed to be able to track which keynotes were being added to the model to coordinate the specs with the model.  ➡️ The Solution: BNIM imported their keynote master list which is coordinated with the firm’s specification masters into the VisiSpecs Keynote Manager. All Revit users were permitted to select and create keynotes in Keynote Manager so they could have access to the keynotes they needed in a timely fashion. Using Keynote Manager’s filters, the specifier could easily track which keynotes were being used to ensure the specifications matched the keynotes in the project. As additional keynotes were created by the modelers, the specifier could review, edit, and ‘approve’ keynotes in Keynote Manager, ensuring quality and consistency in their product. Comments were also added which enabled team communication on keynotes such as ”Restrooms only.” The ability to run Keynote Manager in Microsoft Word allows keynotes to be easily selected without having to switch back and forth between Keynote Manager and the model in Revit. The VisiSpecs Multi-User Keynote Manager increases efficiency as team members no longer have to wait for their colleagues or collaborators to finish selecting keynotes to access Keynote Manager themselves.
