“I would never go back, not for millions of dollars.” Great line from a recent interview with the exceptional Dr. Deborah Moore, M.D. 8 years ago she made the leap and started her own DPC practice, and isn’t looking back. I’m very grateful for the courage and tenacity that she and many others have demonstrated by leaving the beaten path and venturing into alternative solutions. Question for the direct-care physicians in my network: What was your experience like making “the jump”? What would you do differently if you could go back and start over? How long did it take before you felt like you were on stable footing again? How much startup capital did it require? (Dr. Moore got away with just $10k.) And most importantly - do you ever miss the way things were? Would you ever be tempted to go back? — P.S. I’ve spoken with a number of DPC docs who are still working on their first 100 members, and I understand that starting a practice from scratch is quite the monumental task. This seminar will address training, certification, and compliance. We’ll detail obstacles and highlight some of the most effective techniques SPDs can use to overcome them. Sterile Processing Departments (SPDs) are often referred to as “the heart of the hospital.” and play a crucial role in maintaining patient safety by helping lower the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). As with any department, SPDs face challenges during their day-to-day operations. Given the critical role it plays in keeping healthcare facilities running smoothly, SPDS needs to have a set of solutions to its most common hurdles.

In April, Dr. Aldin Ali and I started our first* partnership together. ⚕️Cardiovascular Center Heidelberg opened its doors for patients on April 22nd. Our vision for the center is to change outpatient care in Bulgaria by following the principles of value-based healthcare. ▪️▪️▪️We have a long way to go to get there. These days we are striving to simply get started, make our patients and team feel great when they are at the center, and most important of all - save lives.❤️ I know we will eventually get to see our #vision turn to reality. 📝In the meantime, I thought I could share how our month-to-month #journey as a new business is going. 😱So often in my meetings/conversations people share with me how they dream of starting something, but the #fear of failing or the unknown stops them. I hope that by sharing our journey, I can show that: 🟢 it is difficult, but not impossible to start a small business 🟢 you can be imperfect and still move forward towards your goals/vision 🟢 you don't have to have all the answers 🟢 focusing on the excitement and fun of creating something that serves others helps tamper down the fear. 🫶Sharing and learning from others is how we grow as a community and society. Had a tough conversation with a practice owner struggling to keep his head above water His practice looked like it was thriving (from the outside)  But ever-higher overheads and ever-lower reimbursements were killing his profitability. A large portion of patients were coming in from referrals. Which kept them "busy" but barely getting by. The problem was his practice had grown to rely exclusively on referrals just to survive, and the referral types were mostly the lowest-reimbursing and/or most time-consuming cases. With margins like this, it almost wasn't worth it. I could tell his heart wasn't in it anymore. Look, I get it Getting new patients through referrals is attractive… it’s certainly a core growth strategy for most practices (and it’s one we help practices build)! But, being fully reliant solely on a referral networking strategy puts your practice in a very precarious and vulnerable position. Build patient lead sources you control.
