One and Done: A quite interesting (and supremely rare) Topps salesman's sample recently came across my transom, courtesy of Friend o'the Archive Larry Sarver. While most samples are related to Topps Baseball cards, and ran through 1967, with the occasional Football piece mixed in, non-sports samples are almost never seen. In this case, Topps was hawking one of the best sets they ever produced: 1955's Rails & Sails! True salesman's samples had only just premiered with the 1952 Baseball set, so this is an early one indeed and Topps was still tweaking the formula here: Isn't that a thing of beauty?! The reverse is just as intriguing, with a pitch clearly aimed at the father's of the time: Two cards numbers are obscured by the sticker (which I will get to in a second), they are, from the top #37 and #73. However, the blurb drawing attention to the first four color backs for a Topps set really caught my eye. Topps was constantly trying to improve and sharpen the look of their cards at this time as they were attempting to outpace Bowman with everything they issued. Bowman never really managed to make their card backs all that exciting, whereas Topps began using all sorts of little illustrations and clever graphics on their reverses in earnest starting with Wings in 1952, although their use of color was limited originally, gradually improving as 1955 rolled around. Here's the thing though-shortly after this set came out, Topps ended up buying Bowman and pulled back to a limited use of color on the card backs! I'm trying to ID the next set with four color backs put out by Topps and am really coming up blank. https://lnkd.in/g5sWRHR2 #1955ToppsRailsandSails ∀ CollectingAll.com | @CollectingAll

My Mission is to save one million pitching arms! I am a physical therapist and a strength and conditioning specialist who has developed VELOCITY Rx, a program to help pitchers' performance and bulletproof their arms.
How can we have studies about the effects of pitching on the arm and the shoulder, but never take into consideration the actual mechanics of the pitch? One poorly thrown baseball can do more harm than 10 perfectly thrown ones. It's time to come up with a pitching avatar. Every person is different, but the one thing that could align all of the results is the actual pitching mechanics, which no one can come to a consensus. Golf has the IRON BYRON, a mechanical swing device patterned after the swing of the late great Byron Nelson. Baseball needs a pitching avatar. Until there is consensus on what sound and safe mechanics actually are, every other study done is hogwash. The real cause of injury is the mechanics. The better the pitcher's mechanics, the less injury. We see study after study about the effects of throwing the ball, but no one ever tackles the most important thing: how the movement is done. In my opinion, there is a right way to throw, and everything else is wrong. I have my opinion on my avatar, which is intertwined in my Velocity RX program which builds pitchers from correct neurological movement. What say you? #Arm #Pitching #Baseball #VelocityRX

𝐋𝐮𝐢𝐬 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞 - (𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟔) Having followed Guilherme quite closely over the last 2 years, here is my analysis. What #westham fans can expect on the teenage sensation. Can he live up to the hype? Does he need to improve? 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 Long legs that allow him to maintain control of the ball over long distances, he possesses quite forceful acceleration. Above average height but needs to work on his physical contact. 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 Capable of shifting his feet quickly to work spaces for crosses. However, he can roll defenders and spin on the outside to keep a degree of predictability. At his best when he is driving at defenders so if there is space behind, he is able to shift and go. Glides past players effortlessly at times. Likes to cut in and swing crosses but needs more refinement in terms of that cutting edge. ꜰᴏᴏᴛʙᴀʟʟ ɪQ Whilst he does possess the ability to play cute passes, such as over the top or between defenders, his decision-making can be erratic. On occasions, he makes the wrong crossing option or passing option. Often, he evades a tackle but goes down a blind alley or takes a shot despite an angle not being opened. However, he attacks the space well and floats sometimes to wait for the moment to attack it. ɢᴏᴀʟ ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴛ He can cause panic in the opposition's defence with his direct play. Even though he possesses ability, his execution needs work. His finishing and crossing are inconsistent. Low scoring data so far but there is space for him to move into. ꜱᴜᴍᴍᴀʀʏ Overall, Luis Guilherme is a coup for West Ham, especially if he taps into his raw abilities. But there is a lot of space for improvement and it may take a little time for him to make an impression. That's it! A quick summary Tell me what you think..... Excited about Luis Guilherme in the PL or will he be hindered by his shortcomings. #premierleague #scouting #football #scout #scouting #footballscout

Game, set, match. 🎾 Tennis players use the advantages of different spins they can provide to the ball. 🌀 When the ball spins, aerodynamic forces created by the airflow (so-called Magnus effect) help players control the ball in specific plays during rallies. To minimize unforced errors, players try to get some margin above the net and use top spin to help the ball to fall back inside the lines of the court. Due to the rotation of the ball, the air below the ball is accelerated while the air above the ball is slowed down, resulting in a pressure gradient (Bernoulli's equation) and an upward shift of the wake from earlier flow separation at the top of the ball, which creates a downward force that will work along gravity to keep the ball inside the court. When keeping the ball low, the net becomes more of an obstacle and it can become challenging to keep the ball deep to neutralize the opponent. Players then use the opposite effect (high pressure below the ball and low pressure above the ball) with backspin, which will create an upward force that will keep the ball flight longer and give the “floating” behavior to the ball to get some depth to the shot despite playing close to the net. Thanks, Nicolas Fougere, for serving this simulation up!

Consistency beats intensity! 🏀 Just like in basketball, the game isn't won with a single half-court shot. It's the layups, the free throws, and the hustle that count. Small, consistent efforts lead to big wins over time. #ConsistencyIsKey #SmallStepsBigWins #business #businessstra #strategicthinking Thank you Jun Han Chin for creating and sharing this illustration.
