One thing I carry around with me to any session is my speed gun. Why? There’s only one real KPI in fast bowling and that’s speed. It’s all well and good bowling military medos swinging away and batters playing and missing. But what really puts buns on seats is seeing bowlers bowl with the X-factor. By having a speed gun we are able to assess each bowler, every ball regardless of what ball/medicine ball we use. There’s always an assess aspect not a guess. However the biggest thing I’ve found by having a speed gun out constantly is the environment it creates. Every lad/girl wants to be the fastest in their cohort. By seeing their peers bowl 1mph faster it gives them that extra energy/incentive to really try to run in harder. So for me I’ve found that the environment build by a coach is the most valuable assets there is to have no matter what the sport. Providing an environment in which youth athletes in particular can thrive is the single hardest task for us as coach’s.

Scouting Report: Akeem Dent, CB, Florida State The tape doesn't lie on Dent - he's got elite length and fluidity for the CB position. Shows impressive mirror skills and clicks and closes with excellent burst to stay hip-to-hip vertically. Flashes the ability to get physical and reroute at the LOS. Highly competitive in 50/50 ball situations. Areas for growth: Can be overaggressive at times and get caught peeking in the backfield. Needs to consistently maintain discipline in his backpedal. Overall athleticism is very good but not truly elite. Dent has starting-caliber upside as a press-man CB at the next level. With some technique refinement, his combination of size, length, and competitiveness could make him a coveted prospect come draft day. #NFL #NFLdraft
