“We need every megawatt of every type of [clean power] generation.” – Stephanie Smith, COO of Eolian Energy. That sums up the overarching theme of this year’s American Clean Power Association (ACP) #CleanPower Conference, where industry leaders agreed that in order to meet carbon reduction goals, we’re going to need an “all of the above” approach to applying all clean technologies. This is great news for NET Power, since our innovative plant design can provide reliable baseload power as well as load follow to complement renewables. Here are few other takeaways from the event: - The interjurisdictional nature of transmission means that states and federal agencies must streamline the permitting process - As the public becomes more aware of energy demand issues, their attitudes towards power projects are changing, but developers still need to engage with communities early and often to ensure successful project deployments - Workforce development can be a key driver of community acceptance as well as the industry’s ability to scale as quickly as we need to in order to meet demand We're already looking forward to next year in Phoenix! https://lnkd.in/eRM4UJhC

Senior Vice President of External Affairs Sarah Webster will moderate a panel discussing expanding and optimizing the energy grid at the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) Policy Forum in Washington D.C. Expanding and upgrading transmission capacity is necessary to accommodate the integration of renewable energy and storage resources spurred by public investment and private demand. Really enjoyed the conversation we had at GridTECH Connect Forum about DER interconnection, challenges/successes, and how all stakeholders can collaborate moving forward to accelerate DER’s in the Southeast.  Here are some takeaways from our panel discussion: 1) When developers receive their feasibility study/initial results from the utility, they have a good idea of the economic viability of project based on the projected upgrades and initial IC upgrade costs.  2) Administrative burdens are lengthening study timelines, whereas the studies aren’t taking the most time in the “interconnection process.” Developers have a duty to understand the interconnecting utility’s interconnection application requirements and submit completed packages. Utilities should also invest in innovating their application process, creating online portals for IC requests and payments to be sent. The more we can cut down on the back and forth between parties, the quicker projects can come online. 3) If utilities can publish their queued projects on the distribution system, this would greatly help developers in submitting “keeper projects” (credit to Gerald Warchol [PE] for that term) or projects that have minimal upgrades/costs. From a developer perspective, the more information we can get before submitting projects, the better projects we'll submit! Events like this that contribute to the ongoing discussion surrounding interconnection and how we solve this bottleneck are needed! Looking forward to the next one.
