Great day at CW, our kids had a lot of fun getting to visit inside all of the buildings that had complementary access for the 4th, and the fireworks show was great this year 🥂
Educating and empowering businesses on criminal justice, and how to confidently recruit and retain employees who have lived experience of the criminal justice system.
It's very rare that British people praise themselves as a nation or pause to recognise what we have actually achieved. That's probably a good thing. We constantly try and improve and never really see the end game. That's because frequently we were the pioneers brave enough to make the first mistakes in key globally impacting moments such as the modern democratic system, the creation of law as a protector of common people and the modern industrial age. We started all three but they were never perfect from the start and never will be as people evolve and learn about humanity. This takes time.
I feel comfortable we are now developing a second chamber comprised of experts within their field. The House of Commons is the elected chamber and as with all of us, could do with the rigours of expert scrutiny over the legislation they produce as the people we've elected to do so.
We have plenty on our own plates without having to be responsible for running the country as well so we must learn to trust the people we elect but also participate in the election process as much as possible when we have the opportunity.
The system is not rigged and the conspiracy theorists come and go. We do and we CAN change governments when we need to. I've yet to hear credible alternatives What has evolved today is the cumulation of huge efforts of brave people who've marched the length of the UK to get workers rights, been killed by horses to improve suffrage or gone to the gallows with tremendous dignity in the hope that real justice will emerge.
We continue to pioneer and I predict this evolution in the House of Lords will spread in time, as many of our ideas have done in the past. We can be quietly and briefly proud but never complacent. The work continues and will always do so.
James Timpson explains the importance of caring companies especially with prisoners who have recently been released. He explains that up to 80% yes 80%, may reoffend however, with the right tools, support and a change we can rebuild someone's life.
People are far less likely to reoffend if they are gradually reintegrated to society, during that time they can earn a living income to save for their release - thus reducing the burden on the tax payer. In addition those on ROTL (Release on Temporary Licence) will pay up to 40% of their wages to victims charities as well as paying National Insurance and Tax. In the words of James Timpson it's a win win.

What a powerful first speech.
“…I learned a lot about leadership and responsibility. That trust and kindness are vital traits to me as a leader. As CEO, I learned that if people are happy in their jobs, feel valued, trusted and cared for, they will perform day in, day out…”
Fully of empathy, common sense and positivity.
A lesson in #leadership
I have a huge amount of respect for James Timpson and what he has achieved in his business. It just goes to show the old thinking that you have to be tough and ruthlessness to succeed is very outdated - caring for people and providing an environment for them to be happy in their jobs will nurture far more performance, loyalty and satisfaction. It’s a strategy which will also make the journey far more enjoyable for everyone, including those leading the organisation.
