Your doctor isn't Dr. Gregory House from the popular show HOUSE, but with #AI they can be. I'm much more concerned about a doctor missing key knowledge than using a hallucinated output. #AI becomes a safety net for physicians who miss things all the time, so many rare diseases go undetected on a regular basis. Today if you have any of these problems: Paraneoplastic Syndromes Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) Erdheim-Chester Disease Pantothenate Kinase-Associated Neurodegeneration (PKAN) Wilson’s Disease Hyper IgM Syndrome Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Ondine's Curse (CCHS) Alkaptonuria Acromegaly the list goes on and on... there is a good chance your physician hasn't considered it yet. I've had friends get impacted by these diseases above, one friend who passed when they turned 40 from a disease physicians missed for most of their life. I also have close family members who are still undiagnosed despite nearly 20yrs of being studied. When it comes to leveraging data healthcare is still broken, our experience isn't pooled and physicians are orders of magnitude less efficient than they could be. To all my PWPs and CBT therapists, if like me you love running groups but have ever felt frustrated that: A) People aren't seeming to recover as well as in 1:1 therapy. B) People are forgetting to do (or feel unable to do) the agreed homework. C) People aren't asking questions within the session, even if you can tell they are confused by what has been discussed. Then you might want to look into what me and the team at Limbic have been working on for the last year or so. Banished are physical work books (which can be lost or damaged) and PDF worksheets (which are often hard to interact with and not user friendly). Instead imagine that after your group session, your patients are automatically sent homework tasks through a mobile app (at a time of your choosing). They can complete these tasks in total privacy, any time any where. They recieve notifications to reduce the chance of them forgetting to do it. They are supported through the tasks in a conversational manner, and are able to ask questions about what they are doing. Imagine that the chatbot they are talking to knows the answer based on it's training in CBT, and is available to chat 24/7 in an empathetic, caring manner. I'm super proud of where we're at with Limbic Care, and this is just the start!

👨🍳 Scicake & Digital Health 👨⚕️ Did you know that over 10 million people worldwide are affected by Parkinson's disease? Today is World Parkinson's Day, and at Scicake, we're committed to raising awareness about this neurodegenerative disorder and making a meaningful impact. One of the common symptoms of Parkinson's disease is dysarthria, a condition characterized by difficulty speaking clearly. This impairment not only hinders communication but also significantly impacts patients' quality of life. Unfortunately, until now, dysarthria has usually been poorly diagnosed, which means that subsequent therapy is not well-focused and takes a long time. Scicake is currently working on a groundbreaking system that will, in the form of an app, help speech-language therapists assess dysarthria quickly (three times faster when compared to baseline questionnaire-based assessment), objectively (using AI), and effectively (the app supports export into several formats, comparison of several examinations, monitoring of progress, etc.). In addition, an AI engine will help speech-language therapists design individualized treatment therapy that focuses on the specific needs of each patient. The app is not only limited to Parkinson's disease but could also be scaled to other diseases associated with dysarthria (such as stroke or cerebral palsy). A new study demonstrates AI's potential to diagnose rare diseases years earlier than conventional methods. The AI program accurately identified individuals at risk of a rare immune disorder, with 74 out of 100 high-risk cases confirmed to likely have the disorder. Lead researcher Ruth Johnson highlights the detrimental effects of delayed diagnosis, including increased infections and hospitalizations.  The AI, named PheNet, learns disease patterns from verified cases and ranks individuals' risk based on electronic health records. With promising results, the research team has secured funding to further develop and implement PheNet across medical centers, aiming to expedite diagnosis for CVID and potentially other rare diseases, enhancing patient care.
