A new paper that has just come out in JAMA suggesting bariatric surgery is more effective than lifestyle to improve BGL control in T2DM, after 7&12 years. Have a read and see how it fits w/ your own philosophy on weight management to achieve improved patient outcomes. From my perspective I work in the lifestyle space and my training is again lifestyle focused. Does this evidence suggest to advocate for a surgical solution to a metabolic disease? I'll let you ponder!

Endometriosis, affecting about one in ten women, occurs when uterine lining tissue grows outside the uterus. Typically diagnosed in women in their 30s and 40s, endometriosis responds to estrogen, causing pain, inflammation, and scarring. Treatment options, including medication and surgery, depend on the extent of the disease and individual preferences. Learn more about managing endometriosis at ACOG. Is this a surprise to you? 🤔 Healthcare-Associated Venous Thromboembolism (HA-VTE) is a significant, deadly, costly, and growing public health problem. Although there are a number of reasons a person might develop a blood clot, about 1/2 of them are directly related to a recent hospitalization or surgery, and often don't occur until after discharge. We must improve patient care to #StopTheClot #BCAM2024 National Blood Clot Alliance

Today we celebrate the birthday of Joseph Lister, the father of modern #antisepsis treatment. Lister was introduced to Louis Pasteur's Germ Theory, which led him to apply this theory to surgical infections developing an antiseptic using carbolic acid. His findings received mixed responses from the medical community, but when he introduced carbolic acid hand washes for staff and medical equipment, surgery-related infections dropped. His method gained credibility and even earned the royal seal of approval when he performed surgery on Queen Victoria. Lister influenced further research into antiseptic methods; learn more about them here👇 https://lnkd.in/grXHB_ms #sepsis #antiseptics

Inspiring outcome! Our 75-year-old patient bravely battled Carcinoma esophagus and successfully underwent laparoscopic esophagectomy. This remarkable case showcases: • The power of minimally invasive surgery • The importance of timely intervention • The resilience of the human spirit Also, debunking age-related misconceptions, this case highlights that advanced age is not a barrier to effective treatment. With personalized care and expert surgical techniques, elderly patients can overcome complex health challenges. In short this is what I would like to convey: • Laparoscopic esophagectomy is a viable option for elderly patients • Timely medical intervention improves quality of life • Age should not limit access to life-saving treatments

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗶𝗮𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱® & 𝗙𝗢𝗕 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱® 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗚𝗜 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 A patient experiencing stomach pain and blood in the stool received home-sampling kits for CALiaGold® (calprotectin) and FOB Gold® (fecal occult blood) tests. Elevated calprotectin levels and a positive FOB Gold® test indicated GI inflammation and potential bleeding. A colonoscopy revealed IBD and precancerous adenomas. The patient underwent surgery for IBD and removal of the adenomas. Combining these non-invasive tests can lead to earlier diagnosis and intervention for GI conditions, which in this case tremendously benefitted the patient in the long run.
