We've never seen a tire with a wear pattern quite like this! Bad suspension or a bad alignment is the most common culprit for uneven tire wear, causing cupping or wear on the inner or outer edges of the tire. We believe this was caused by suspension after an extended period of time. Do you remember James Garner’s famous moonshiner’s turn? James Garner portrayed the role of Jim Rockford, a private investigator known for his conspicuous gold car. A Pontiac firebird Esprit. The production of the show involved the use of three cars per season: one as the main car, one for action sequences, and one designated for damage. After the first season, the show changed to the Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 with a powerful engine and suspension and made it look like the simple "Esprit." This model had the power and suspension, similar to the Trans-AM, which is the model made famous by “Smokey and the Bandit.” The car was made to look average, like the Esprit, but had the power to do the Moonshiner’s turn (also known as the J-turn or turn-around maneuver). This was a signature maneuver that James Garner described in his 2011 autobiography: "When you are traveling straight in reverse at about 35 miles per hour, you release the gas pedal, sharply turn left, and engage the emergency brake, which locks the wheels and swivels the front end around. Then, you release all controls, step on the gas, and swiftly proceed in the opposite direction." I suggest that you do not go out and try this maneuver. First, you need the right power and suspension to make it work and it sounds dangerous to me.
