By having multiple connection points throughout your building, standpipe systems allow firefighters to quickly access water on different levels, reducing response time and potentially minimizing fire damage. Our team can help keep your standpipe system compliant and operational, which is especially important in buildings with a large number of occupants, or where the risk of fire is high. Simply put: Fire doors should undergo a basic fire door survey at least every six months – whatever the height of the building. In high-traffic areas or places with increased wear and tear, more frequent checks are recommended. If your residential property is over 11 metres in height, you are legally required to have quarterly inspections of communal doors, and annual inspections of flat entrance doors.

Reflecting on the recent surge in high-rise building fires, it's alarming to witness how flames can swiftly traverse balconies, infiltrating flats and communal spaces. External winds amplify the challenge, intensifying the rapid spread of fire. A video I came across highlighted the staggering impact: under moderate wind conditions, a breached balcony door could escalate temperatures to a scorching 2000C within minutes, with even an FD30 door succumbing in under 3 minutes. As we grapple with these concerning scenarios, questions emerge. Should all balconies be mandated to meet Class 0 standards? Must balcony doors be upgraded to at least FD120 or FD240? Are FD60 living room doors and identical flat doors the key to containment? In the face of such challenges, does the 'stay put' policy hold, or is it time for a paradigm shift towards sprinkler or mist systems in high-rises? I'm eager to hear your perspectives on these critical questions. Let's discuss potential solutions to enhance fire protection in high-rise structures. #FireProtection #FireRiskAssessment #FireEngineering #firedoorinspection

Delivering expert inspection, training & consulting for firestopping, barriers and other passive fire protection disciplines
Compartmentation works even when fire-resistance-rated assemblies are not in use and sprinklers not available. Even with just a standard interior residential door, the key takeaway from the article is, "The closing of the bedroom door stopped the fire from growing by limiting airflow into the room and increasing smoke buildup, starving the fire of oxygen." Effective compartmentation equals fire containment. Combined with sprinklers we are maximizing the opportunity for people and property to be fully protected. If your community is not yet promoting the Close Before You Doze message, there is a link in the article for tools you can use to do so. #compartmentation, #lifesafety, #firefightersafety, #peoplepropertyfullyprotected, #closebeforeyoudoze

'Important notice for building owners and managers 🚨 When planning internal changes to your building—whether it's a refurbishment, an extension, adding air-conditioning, or creating new workspaces—it's crucial to consider the impact on your building's passive fire protection. Key elements like fire-resistant partition walls, ceilings, and fire doors are more than just structural components—they play a vital role in compartmentation, containing fire, smoke, and hot gases to prevent them from spreading. Altering these elements can have serious consequences and can disrupt the effectiveness of your Fire Emergency Evacuation Plan (FEEP).
