MI Professor Dr. Masoom Haider co-authored a poster that was presented at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting, titled “AI Detects Missed Small Renal Masses on Single Phase CT,” along with Associate Professor Dr. Satheesh Krishna Jeyaraj. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the performance of a UNet-based lesion segmentation model on SRMs missed by radiologists. Sulfonylureas are a class of oral medications used to manage blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. They are commonly used due to their affordability. However, these drugs increase insulin production regardless of blood sugar levels and can cause blood sugar to drop too low, leading to hypoglycemia. Repeated episodes of hypoglycemia can cause individuals to have difficulty recognizing low blood glucose levels. A recent study published in Annals of Family Medicine shows that long-term use of sulfonylureas is associated with impaired awareness of hypoglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes. This risk increases the longer the patient uses this medication. Current guidelines recommend newer classes of medications over sulfonylureas. To date, there has never been a successful whole human eye transplant for the restoration of vision. However, research teams across the country, including at the University of Wisconsin—Madison, are hopeful these efforts will pave the way for this procedure. Earlier this month, the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, announced $125 million in funding from its Transplantation of Human Eye Allografts program. 📯 We want to announce our most recent publication, which closes a crucial gap in the histories of science, mobility, and materials in #Science and #Technology Studies. 📜 The transport of radioactive #materials has been an issue that has preoccupied professionals working with radiation in medical settings for over a century. With this editorial, Prof. Dr. Maria Rentetzi (https://lnkd.in/eVgyDm6Z) and Dr. Aske Hennelund Nielsen (https://lnkd.in/eGeEbVYy) look back at the history of how radioactive materials – particularly radium – was moved and transported by early #radiologists at the beginning of the 20th century. ☢️ This also led the main international organisation, the International Radiological Congress, working on radiation protection during this period to issue recommendations for the proper #transport of radium. These recommendations also had important implications for radiological, #clinical practice, and how #radium was stored and transported within the clinic.
