In my journey with the Center for Systems Awareness, I have come to affirm that one of the most valuable lessons is the importance of entertaining the idea that my perspective on any given situation might not be the clearest. This confirmation has become a cornerstone for all future learnings and interactions, profoundly impacting how I approach both personal and professional challenges. Recognizing that my perspective may not always be the clearest requires a level of humility that fosters growth. It encourages me to approach situations with an open mind, ready to listen and learn from others. This openness dismantles the barriers of ego and allows for a richer, more nuanced understanding of the complexities we face. Entertaining the possibility of not seeing the full picture also enhances my problem-solving skills. It pushes me to ask better questions, seek diverse perspectives, and consider alternative viewpoints. This approach reduces the risk of blind spots and helps in making more informed and balanced decisions. This insight reinforces the importance of a continuous learning mindset. It reminds me that every interaction and experience is an opportunity to learn and grow. By consistently challenging my assumptions and being curious about different perspectives, I can stay adaptable and resilient in the face of change. In my role within the Ventura County Office of Education, especially in the Expanded Learning Services department, this insight is incredibly pertinent. Acknowledging that my view might be limited helps in creating a more inclusive and compassionate environment. This lesson has truly been a golden nugget for me. It’s a reminder that our understanding of any situation is always evolving and that by entertaining the idea that our perspective might not be the clearest, we open ourselves up to greater learning and more meaningful connections. This approach not only enhances my work within the educational system but also enriches my personal growth and interactions with the world around me. ❤️

As I transition out of teaching, I have to regularly remind myself that things take time. In education, getting hired can happen very quickly. However, I am learning to pace myself when it comes to the corporate world and recognize that there’s a process. After a long wait, we FINALLY kicked off our training with Port Houston on Tuesday, diving into the World Class Assistant curriculum! It seems like everything was against us, with the hurricane earlier this year pushing the training even further back. However, with a spirit of resiliency and determination, the assistants from Port Houston embarked on their training together into the designation course I custom-tailored to them. I had the honor of teaching 30 enthusiastic participants ways executive assistants can build a strategic partnership with their executives to understand the scope of their work, which is a lot bigger and deeper than the list of the tasks their executive performs or the work they do. For example, many think that the scope of my work is training, hosting conferences, hosting webinars, etc. However, it is not. My scope of work is to improve the quality of life for assistants, align management and support to see themselves as business partners and educate companies and its leaders on why they need to invest in their administrative professionals’ professional development. Something that Office Dynamics International uniquely does is having participants write their Professional Development Plan during class, which gives them time to write the plan and how they plan on executing what they learned. The administrative team actually learned about this training curriculum from one of their own, who took world-class assistance several years back (when I offered it in person) and was so impacted by it that she advocated bringing it to her company.
