💡 How do you effectively lower the carbon footprint of new development #concrete sidewalks? ✔ Use low carbon concrete and the available Concrete Ontario Ontario Industry-Average EPD report. 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞: ☑️ 35 concrete panels: 2m x 2m, 150 mm thick = 21 m3 ☑️ Baseline 32 MPa concrete with air & 0.45 w/cm (C-2) GU 10 SL = 326.46 kgCO2/m3 ☑️ Low carbon concrete = 269.55 kgCO2/m3 ✅ 1.2 tonnes CO2 saved ✅ 17% reduction in concrete carbon With the materials and tools already available, it is only a matter of time before all infrastructure utilizes low-carbon concrete.

With more than 10 billion tons of concrete produced annually, the world uses an enormous amount of it in construction. Water is the only material on earth that is consumed MORE than concrete. It's time to make concrete inherently green by advancing material technologies that not only lower its CO2 footprint, but also enable new permeable products for stormwater management and groundwater recharge to naturally save water. https://lnkd.in/g8crDZvT

The NRMCA Low Carbon Concrete Event is chalked full of key information not to be missed. Get some insight into the afternoon session... ⬇ How to Measure - NRMCA Concrete Carbon Calculator Tool - The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association's (NRMCA) Carbon Concrete Calculator is a tool that helps concrete producers, contractors, and design teams collaborate on projects that reduce embodied carbon. The calculator uses Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and concrete mix designs to calculate a structure's carbon footprint. It then automatically generates a report that compares the anticipated carbon reduction potential of a low-carbon concrete project to original benchmarks. The calculator also helps users: · Compare baseline projects to proposed low-carbon projects. · Benchmark against NRMCA, GSA, state, and local. · Set voluntary benchmarks for low carbon concrete. · Help write specifications for the lowest carbon footprint for concrete projects. · Establish a carbon budget. There is still time to register: https://lnkd.in/eh8QXjth

How does carbonation affect transport infrastructure? What can the council asset maintenance teams do? Carbonation of a concrete structure is a reaction in the concrete between carbon molecules and moisture. It causes the concrete to change colour, and the reinforcing steel to corrode quickly. Read on, to find out how it can be arrested! https://bit.ly/49OWwHQ This system that halts carbonation in existing concrete can add years of service life to the structure.
How Can We Prevent or Arrest Concrete Carbonation?

When concrete is driven into the soil, the risk of contamination within the concrete increases. Groundwater contains various soluble contaminants that can rapidly damage concrete or the reinforcing steel inside. But how can this be prevented? How can concrete be made more resistant to contamination? Have a read on, as to halting water movement within concrete itself: https://bit.ly/3uDyi4h

Concrete preservation is a proactive and cost-effective approach aimed at extending the service life of concrete roadways by preventing or delaying deterioration caused by various factors such as weathering, traffic loads, and environmental exposure. This process involves the application of protective measures to mitigate the impact of distress mechanisms, including concrete sealer, crack fillings, water repellants, and degrease. #concrete
