Awards Season.......how to write a winning entry 🏆 I am very lucky to be part of judging panels for several awards events coming up over the next few months. It is a genuine honour to review talented businesses and individuals across our industry. Having trawled through a very long list of entries last week I thought it might be useful to share my tips for how to create strong entries. ✔ Read the criteria carefully, and make sure your entry captures each of the required points. ✔ Use bullet points, short paragraphs and easy to digest content. Remember the judges have to read an awful lot, so make sure yours is easily understandable. ✔ If you are applying in multiple categories, make sure you make your entry different in each category (back to point 1) Each entry needs to be relevant to the category. ✔ Don't think you have to apply for every category you may have a chance to win in. Less entries, with better clarity and detail, will have more of a chance. And do not give up. If you don't make the shortlist, keep trying. Over the years I have seen plenty of entries improve year on year, your time will come! Good luck everyone 🍀

We have so many award lists reserved for people 𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥 20, 30, and 40. That's cool and all, but how about we push for some new standalone recognitions from the likes of PRWeek, Forbes, Fast Company, TechCrunch, etc., dedicated to (wait for it) people 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 40, 50, 60? Let's call it the "Wisdom Winners" or "Wisdom 50 over 50", you get the idea. Major bonus points if the people selected were relative late bloomers or second actors who hit their stride well after the typical prodigies. People like Morgan Freeman, Rose Blumkin, Bernie Marcus, Ray Kroc, Henry Ford, Martha Stewart, Toni Morrison, Lucille Ball, the list goes on and on. The more resilience, the higher the ranking. I would love to delve into this type of award list, would you?

True government innovation takes a lot—strong leadership, organizational buy-in, talented industry partners, new technologies and, of course, individual change agents. That's why we're so excited about this year's Rising Stars Awards—a joint effort of Nextgov/FCW and Route Fifty—showcasing the up-and-comers who are driving change across federal, state and local governments, as well as emerging talent at contracting firms. We're looking for early-career phenoms whose leadership, innovation and all-around extra effort are having a powerful and positive impact. Anyone in the government technology community is eligible—military and civilian, career and political, contractor, academic and association expert alike. Nominees must be less than 10 years into their government IT careers, and winners are chosen for their impact, so be sure to explain what a nominee did and what all that work accomplished. Nominate a Rising Star and highlight their innovate work at the link below:

I recently had the fun task of putting these fabulous people into teams Judging teams, that is It's not quite award season, but behind the scenes, it never stops With the help of our judging committee Mayokun - Mac Alonge, Sope Agbelusi, Demi S. and the wider BTA team we have: - recruited and onboarded new judges - look out for announcements 🎉 - refined the entry forms to make sure all of the nominees shine ✨ - rebuilt the judging system and tested it to destruction 🤯 Awards aren't everyone's cup of tea, but... At the BTAs, we do our utmost to make sure the process is fair and efficient - We offer feedback to everyone who enters who doesn't get shortlisted - All finalists are interviewed before the winners are chosen - The judging process is rigorous, but it's also fun BTAs recognise people who just get their heads down and do a good job - People who often don't like to blow their own trumpet 🎺 - People who may not even be on Linkedin 😳 - People who shun the spotlight 🙈 Nominations are open - employees, solopreneurs, small and large businesses Head to Black Talent Awards and nominate - give someone their flowers 💐 #Inclusion #BlackTalentAwards

What’s an award worth these days? In the age of participation trophies and endless accolade inflation, it seems like everyone has a shiny statue to show off. But let’s be honest, do these awards truly represent excellence, or are they just another checkbox in the race for recognition? Don’t get me wrong, being acknowledged feels great, but when every other post is about yet another ‘industry award,’ it makes you wonder about the real value behind these honors. Are they driving genuine innovation and setting industry standards, or simply boosting egos and marketing campaigns? Maybe it’s time we shift our focus from collecting accolades to creating real impact. After all, true success isn’t measured by the number of trophies on your shelf, but by the difference you make and the legacy you leave behind. #IndustryThoughts #RealImpact #BeyondAwards
