We’re proud to share the successful completion of a high-profile renewable energy project at Cornwall Council’s headquarters in Truro! As part of the Council’s Net Zero 30 strategy, this initiative showcases how innovation and collaboration can drive positive change. Over six months, as Principal Contractor, Lorne Stewart Facilities worked closely with Cornwall-based engineers and our SME supply chain to deliver: Installation of 543 solar panels, generating 200,000 kWh of clean electricity annually – enough to power 74 homes! Construction of solar canopies over the visitor and pool vehicle car parks. Integration of EV charging points, resurfacing, and relining for 62 parking spaces, including disabled and EV-friendly bays. Enhanced security with 20 CCTV cameras mounted on the canopies. The project culminated with a seamless one-day electrical shutdown, connecting the panels to the building’s generator. These efforts will provide lower-cost, renewable energy for New County Hall for years to come! The AR POWER team have designed and installed a large solar carport for a local authority in the North East. "This is a new 196 space car park with a mobility hub funded by the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund based at Holmeside in the City Centre. Sunderland City Council wanted to install destination EV charging points so that car park users could charge EV’s whilst they were using the facility. To reduce carbon emissions, they decided to install solar panels with battery storage to harness the energy from the sun rather than rely on grid supplied electricity. There is also cycle storage available at the car park. The main contractor, CR Reynolds Ltd, approached AR Power to design, supply and install the solar canopy. An illuminating victory to say the least! 💡 Last month Topology Planner II Justin Cutroneo, AICP/PP helped bring home a big approval after providing use variance testimony on behalf of our client, Lightstar Renewables, LLC. The application called for a solar energy field located on existing agricultural land in Fairfield Township, Cumberland County. 🌞➡⚡ The project is proposed to align with the State's Dual-Use Solar Energy Pilot Program of 2021, where solar energy and agriculture are seamlessly integrated. 👨🌾☀ Solar energy supported by the State, is an inherently beneficial use according to the Municipal Land Use Law, with many environmental benefits such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, dangerous pollutants, and water consumption and by providing a more efficient, reliable, and healthier source of energy. Here’s an opportunity for manufacturing: modular carports for solar panel installations on large parking lots. France has passed a law that all of its large parking lots must be covered by solar by 2028. There’s a lot of parking lots. In the USA parking lots cover more area than the state of DE and RI combined. Dimensions of parking spaces are somewhat standardized. That, plus the time pressure, are two good reasons that modular construction and volume manufacturing are potentially the way to go. https://lnkd.in/gBPP2Gk8

We have just completed this immense installation at Hammerstone Road, Manchester. The complete refurbishment of Manchester City Council’s waste disposal and maintenance depot located at the old Gorton Foundry site on Hammerstone Road in Gorton, Manchester, which was once occupied by railway manufacturers Beyer and Peacock who manufactured nearly 8,000 railway locomotives here from 1854 to 1966. Over 2190 SolarPV Panels (420w) have been incorporated into the design to minimise carbon emissions related to building processes and vehicle charging. To augment this strategy a battery storage solution has been proposed to store renewable energy generated by the PV during peak periods, thus maximising carbon reduction and minimising the technologies payback period. This project was delivered in partnership with Morgan Sindall Construction, and marks another successful collaboration between our two companies. Another super charging hub with 30 charging bays. The other good news is that this is in the north of England. We need to find a way of making this visible for driving to see that it’s an EV hub when they drive past so non-EV drivings can see the infrastructure is growing which in turn drives confidence.
