Mental Health BEDS NHS Can you imagine a Young Person with LD, who has significant learning needs, being arrested, chained and cuffed because an associate health professional failed to 'understand ' read or even comprehend all of their support plans; the 'health professional not trained in LD' then wrongly assumes the YP having capacity - despite the reports stating otherwise. The collective professional group, knowing the person's needs, ignored every plan and process - because they 'could not find an MH Bed', so instead of working together for and in the person's best interests and a (FIRST DO NO HARM) approach- they decided to take a very vulnerable YP with a cognition of 10 and place them into one of the worst prisons in the UK - the YP was so traumatised - they almost died. What is the review outcome: "Sorry, there is a dire national shortage of MH Beds." Welcome to the UK, a democratic country that actively accuses other dictatorships of human rights abuses - whilst sweeping is own violations under the carpet. 2024 has started out opening a new front for addressing #parentalalienation as a potentially deadly #coercivecontrol threat to family relationships with evidence-based public health policy and suicide prevention. I am thrilled and honoured to join the Board of Directors of two peak bodies, the international PASG (Parental Alienation Study Group) and Parents Beyond Breakup (for dads, mums and grandparents in distress) here in Australia. Parents Beyond Breakup is pioneering #suicideprevention in the alienation space. Together with the PASG and other organisations, now is the time to drive the dialogue in policy development, social justice and structural change to address the deadly threat parental alienation and alienating behaviour poses. #familyviolence #domesticviolence #domesticabuse

Youth Justice: Prevention not Detention Conference: 12 and 13 SEPTEMBER 2024, THE MANTRA RESORT at SALT. Who is this conference for? This conference will be a great training opportunity for all child and family practitioners, child protection workers, youth justice workers, health professionals and educators. We all need to be trauma informed, FASD informed, and human rights informed if we are to prevent youth crime and youth detention. FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorder) is two and a half times more prevalent than autism – we just don’t recognise it. If a child can do well, they will do well. Those who are affected by trauma and/or cognitive disabilities need help and support not judgment and exclusion. At the conference in September we will hear from national and international experts, psychiatrists, paediatricians, professors, researchers, and lawyers. Excellent article. To reduce crime and criminal behavior - you have to protect and create a society the provides safety and the basic foundations for survival so that people no longer need to resort to crime as a means to survive or cope with their struggles.

In 2023, the Mississippi Legislature passed HB 1222, creating "The Mississippi Collaborative Response to Mental Health Act." This groundbreaking legislation requires every municipal and county law enforcement agency to provide evidence-based mental health first aid training, approved by the Department of Mental Health. Additionally, it mandates that each agency has at least one crisis intervention trained officer. Public Safety Mental Health First Aid is a crucial component of this initiative. It equips law enforcement officers with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively respond to individuals experiencing mental health crises. By recognizing the signs of mental distress and de-escalating situations, officers can better ensure the safety and well-being of both themselves and the community members they serve.
