Do you want to develop a Gender Equality Plan (GEP) for your organisation? Or are you starting the implementation of a GEP? In the past months, we have discussed the five key areas of intervention (KAI) expected to be included in gender equality plans for research and innovation organisations. In addition to the KAI articles, the recently published handbook of EQUAL4EUROPE can help you implement an equality plan. The EU funded project EQUAL4EUROPE developed good practices to promote gender equality in research and higher education institutions. The comprehensive handbook summarises the main findings of the project after four years of work. It provides a detailed account from the initial identification of problems to the practical implementation of the equality policy. Team Leader & CEO | Driving results in International Development I Expert in Market Systems Development, Policy Advocacy & Climate Adaptation Finance I 17 Years of Impactful Leadership
The Performance of Australian Development Cooperation (PADC) report confirmed that DFAT had fallen short of its target of having 80 percent of its investments effectively address gender equality. While the 75 percent achievement seems disappointing, I believe this is good news. The PADC report's findings are crucial in understanding the progress made in gender equality. DFAT's commitment to this cause is evident in the quality assurance provided by gender specialists. The report highlights that these specialists ensured the quality of more than 60 per cent of IMRs and HIMRs, in addition to the validation of FIMRs provided by external experts. The new international development policy was released last year. The status of gender equality certainly allows the government to rethink the goal and strategic way forward. For example, based on the findings, DFAT has already decided to increase specialist advisory support to its staff to increase program quality and performance on disability equity and rights. https://lnkd.in/gtGkFzdA

Advancing Gender Equality: A Focus on Transformative Programming and Influence Gender equality and the empowerment of women have been pivotal considerations within the global development landscape for several years. Consequently, numerous development stakeholders have diligently worked towards ensuring gender parity, with the United Nations and its development partners setting the ambitious goal of achieving gender equality by 2030, as outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 5, and perhaps Goal 10. While commendable progress has been achieved in various aspects of addressing the intricacies of gender disparities, it is evident that there is still significant work ahead to realize these objectives within the next six years. To expedite the realization of these developmental aspirations, there has been a notable paradigm shift among practitioners in the approach to gender-related issues. The focus has transitioned from conventional gender sensitivity or mainstreaming to encompass gender transformative programming and influencing. Drawing on my experience as a development practitioner, I perceive gender transformative programming and influencing as a more effective catalyst for achieving SDG 5. This approach encourages a heightened emphasis on addressing the root causes of gender imbalances rather than merely alleviating their symptoms. It delves deeply into the transformation of underlying structures and behaviors that perpetuate gender disparities at all levels, striving for more equitable outcomes for all genders. In essence, influencing plays a crucial role in challenging and changing unjust policies, practices, behaviors, and social norms that contribute to widening gender gaps. This approach fosters a positive change in communities by designing and implementing effective influencing strategies, which are particularly relevant in community development work. Such strategies prioritize engaging communities and building relationships and partnerships with those directly affected by gender issues. Gender transformative programming and influencing encompasses diverse approaches, which we will explore in greater detail along with practical examples. I firmly believe that as communities, organizations, and governments embrace these strategies in their development efforts and actively work towards addressing the root causes of gender inequality, we can collectively contribute to creating a world where all genders are valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Is Gender Equality a Western Invention? The American Sociologist Thomas Sowell, in his book ‘Wealth, Poverty and Politics’ stated that: “A society which restrict the education or employment of women can forfeit half of the human capital potential of its own population.” This reiterates the fact that gender equality is a global issue that requires urgent and collective action... Follow the link below to explore more of this issue, from my article... What Was Gender Equality in Nigeria Before the Intervention of the West? https://lnkd.in/dSDnMstX

Empowering Change: Gender Mainstreaming in Jordan's Energy Sector. Today, the USAID Energy Support Activity (ESSA) hosted a one-day workshop focused on "Gender Mainstreaming in the Energy Sector." This event addressed the barriers identified in ESSA’s Gender and Youth Assessment, which include a lack of institutional mechanisms to promote gender equality and social inclusion, as well as the persistence of traditional gender roles in the energy sector. The workshop aimed to enhance gender mainstreaming practices among key national institutions. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the principles of gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) and the importance of GESI analysis in their daily work. The workshop strengthened the capacity of ESSA's national counterparts to integrate gender considerations into public policies, programs, projects, and activities. Attendees explored the significance of gender equality and social inclusion, why these principles are essential in planning and management, and how to effectively implement GESI-sensitive approaches. The event brought together 25 participants from ESSA’s main national counterparts, including Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources-Jordan JREEEF Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund, هيئة تنظيم قطاع الطاقة والمعادن-EMRC, National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), and Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI). Throughout the day, participants engaged in discussions and practical exercises designed to equip them with the knowledge and tools needed to mainstream gender and social inclusion in their respective organizations. #GenderEquality #SocialInclusion #EnergySector #USAIDESSA #Workshop #SustainableDevelopment
