It’s always good to hear about your company from someone else’s perspective.... Today, I had the privilege of meeting with a remarkable haircare manufacturer and her dynamic marketing team. Our journey began just over a month ago with a casual lunch meeting between myself and the CEO. Fast forward to today, our third engagement together, and I'm filled with gratitude for the trust they've expressed in our agency. What struck me most during our conversation was the CEO's honesty about her initial hesitations, due to past experiences. But, she started to see our agency in a different light, because of our approach. As a strategic communications agency, we aren't focused on specific tactics; instead, we took time to deeply understand their brand and their existing strategies and identified opportunities to be additive. Our focus on developing holistic strategies resonated with the team. Today's meeting was a moment of validation and appreciation for the effort we've invested in building a genuine relationship. Building trust is a journey, one that requires dedication and a genuine desire to add value at every step.  Do not despise these small beginings, for the Lord rejoice to see the work begin... Want to know the secret to winning awards? Well first, you need to do great work. But that’s no secret. The real trick is having strong PR to let the world know we did that work. With the exception of a superbowl spot or two, we probably haven’t seen a single bit of award-winning work out in the wild. We see it in our feeds, shared by the agencies and people and trade magazines and awards shows we follow. And by the way, that’s the first place most of the judges see it too. We never saw Leon the allegedly dead lizard live. We didn’t take the unfiltered history tour at the British museum (we were at the Harry Potter show). And even if we live in New York, we never saw the ubiquitous fearless girl because we work on Madison Avenue and not Wall Street. And PR doesn’t just lead to shiny objects. It attracts clients and talent. We are in the business of selling other people’s products, but the most successful agencies are the ones who also know how to sell themselves. I’m not trying to undermine the value of doing great work. To win awards, the work has to be great. And even if we take awards out of the equation, we should make our work great because we love advertising, we want to do right by our clients, and we take pride in what we do. But if we want to build more successful teams and agencies, the PR has to be just as great. #advertising #awards #leadership

These 3 things will be the cornerstone of everything I do as a Personal Brand Manager in 2024: 1.⁠ ⁠Understand what is important to clients month-to-month so they can feel, see and hear the dots being connected on their behalf continuously 2.⁠ ⁠Always have the difficult conversation. Say ‘no’ when you know someone wants to hear a ‘yes’. Ask for regular feedback on delivery and processes 3.⁠ ⁠Show them don’t tell them. Paint the bigger picture for clients, verbalise the mission and bring them on the entire journey Loved kicking off the new year with Ash and Claudia on an SLT trip to the countryside. 2023 was big but 2024 is set to be bigger.
