Clinical UX Strategist available to help clients work on digital therapeutics and health tech projects. Specialist in health equity and healthcare behavioural science. Event speaker and host. Consciously Antiracist.
I was asked a commonly asked question again this week. Yes, I was of course asked how I go from being a doctor to working in Clinical UX, but that's not the question I'm referring to! 😂 I was asked if I knew of any digital health products that have great UX that encourages behaviour change. The truth is, I don't! Of course, I've worked on many projects, but much of my work is in Research & Development where great UX work has been done. But little of this work gets seen outside of closed doors. There are many reasons for this, which can be a post (or video) in itself. But by far the most common reason is the disconnect between what is decided by business leaders and what UX research has (or could) recommend. Too often there is a focus on getting the product out fast, rather than getting the right product out at the right time. What I can say though is that companies that have at least a team of multidisciplinary UX professionals, made up of strategists, researchers and designers, stand to be significantly more successful. We can learn plenty from seeing the work done by others, and "stealing like an artist" from what we see works well. But this won't change the fact that having diverse, UX talent is an essential component of successful digital health projects. #clinicalux

A big part of our work is understanding how to listen to stakeholder priorities while advocating for the best, safest, and most delightful experience for the user. Unfortunately, business goals don't always align with our user-centered objectives, which is where great communication becomes crucial. Effectively explaining the rationale for our decisions, rooted in psychology, research, and best practices, is a skill all content designers must master to be effective. I'm looking forward to attending Eileen Webb's free session today at 12 PM ET, called Collaborating with Challenging Stakeholders. If registration is still open, you might want to join! #UX #UXResearch #UXWriting #TID #ContentDesign #UXTips #UserExperience #Collaborating #TeamWork #Psychology #ForTheLoveOfWords

🕵️ If UX Researchers were spies: Recruiting UX Research Study Participants So it’s time to recruit for a UX Research Study. Let's go over how to gather UX research participants in the field. After all, you'll need to talk to the locals in your product’s market to get a good lay of the land. First you'll want to hit up any existing contacts. Ask friends, family, peers and even professional connections if you think they fit your research. Just remember to ID and quash any biases you notice early on. Next, it's time to scout bulletins, forums, and communities relevant to your area of research. These people don't have pre-existing relationships with you, so you can count on them to be fairly blunt and direct. And finally, if HQ’s allocated the budget, you can contract out to a third party research company. They'll pound the pavement looking for good recruits so you can focus on crafting the study. Just don't count on that always being an option. #uxresearch #iftheywerespies #userexperience #learning

Just watched a video by Arun Maini (MRWHOSETHEBOSS) about how everything we see on social media apps is designed to keep us hooked. From endless scrolling to notification timing, these are intentional choices based on psychology and UX, shaping how we spend our time online. As designers, we have a responsibility to find a balance between creating engaging experiences and considering the #ethical implications of our work. It’s fascinating how psychology is used to drive behavior—but it also raises important questions about our role in influencing user habits. Check out the video: https://lnkd.in/g6gVtJtP and comment your thoughts! #DesignEthics #ProductDesign #UserExperience #Psychology #SocialMedia
