I recently attended the awards ceremony for the JNN Technical Awards - a prestigious competition where all 28 JNN-affiliated stations, including TBS Television and Mainichi Broadcasting, showcase their technological innovations. This annual event, now in its 28th year, recognizes excellence in program production and broadcasting technology. I'm proud to share that my development team won the Grand Prize in the Program Development category for our "Cloud Replay System." This streamlined system stores numerous short-duration video clips in cloud storage for broadcast use. By adding metadata to these clips, we can instantly search, download, and broadcast previous similar plays during sports broadcasts, creating engaging new ways to highlight athletes' performances. While technically straightforward, I built this system in my first year in IT using agile development and fully managed services. My background in program production before entering IT helped me create a solution that deeply resonates with both production and technical staff needs. Looking ahead, I'm excited to continue learning and discovering unique innovations that only someone with my diverse background can envision. #Broadcasting #TechInnovation #CloudComputing #SportsMedia #Television

5G takes center stage as one of the key trends at this year's IBC in Amsterdam 5G was a key focus at this year's IBC in Amsterdam, with several sessions exploring its impact on broadcasting. A notable topic was the convergence of 5G with traditional broadcast standards like ATSC 3.0 and DVB-T2. This concept allows 5G Broadcast to coexist within the same UHF channel, enabling smoother service migration in congested spectrum areas while supporting legacy devices. The IBC Technical Papers session on "5G Technology - Convergence with Broadcast" discussed how 5G Broadcast can operate simultaneously with current terrestrial standards, offering flexibility and efficiency in managing spectrum. Another key session, "5G Innovations for M&E," highlighted new 5G features like network slicing, which allows specific 5G bandwidth to be dedicated to individual customers. This has the potential to optimize content production and distribution, offering more flexibility and quality guarantees. Additionally, a demonstration from Verizon of an end-to-end workflow with remote production and delivery of NHL content over 5G networks showed how this technology can reduce broadcasting costs and simplify cloud-based video workflows, showcasing its potential to transform media industry operations. Net Insight participated in this project that also received an innovation award at the show. These discussions at IBC 2024 highlighted how 5G is poised to significantly impact broadcasting and media delivery, offering new opportunities for innovation and efficiency. #5GInnovation #IBCTech2024 #MediaTech #BroadcastingEvolution #5GInMedia #DigitalTransformation #ContentDelivery Link: https://lnkd.in/duRnpXYe

Two days to go and I will be sitting alongside a panel of experts discussing opportunities and challenges in Digital services and infrastructure. Currently the technology and innovation of the Trust and Safety industry which the Film and Publication Board regulates sits in the Global North, thus making the South a user and consumer. We need to share these opportunities with the emerging tech companies both locally and continentally. Let's us not be a spectator in the economics of Digital transformation like we did with other digital revolution epochs. Let Africa' start-ups stand up and propel the continent on this economic digital revolution journey. For us as the regulator, African safety solutions will assist in dealing with online safety from an African perspective such as linguistic/cultural nuances which are the dominant medium through which prohibited content such as hate and incitement of violence are perpetrated.

TV 3.0: The Future of Digital Broadcasting Unveiled at G20 Brazil 2024. The possibilities of the upcoming era of open digital TV were showcased for the member countries present at the event. On June 11, the SBTVD Forum participated in the 3rd meeting of the G20 Brazil 2024 digital economy working group in São Luís / MA, conducting a demonstration of the features of TV 3.0, the new technology standard for open and free digital TV, which is being developed by the SBTVD Forum, with the participation of about 90 researchers from nine Brazilian universities, funded by the Ministry of Communications (MCom) through the RNP. It is expected that by 2025 the first broadcasts of TV 3.0 will begin, providing even more interactive content, through applications, with better image and audio quality and additional on-demand content for the general public. In a statement, the Forum asserts that “during the demonstration, it was possible to observe and experience some of the main features of TV 3.0: ultra-high definition video content, immersive and customizable audio, an application-based user interface, multi-device accessibility, and emergency alerts. These technologies will be available on free open TV, without subscription costs.” And it explains that the TV 3.0 demonstrations taken by the Fórum SBTVD to the #G20 were carried out in partnership with the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA), Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), National Network for Teaching and Research (RNP), Fraunhofer IIS, Mirakulo Software and V-Nova Ltd. #G20 #G20brazil2024 #sbtvd #sbtvdforum #tv30 #tv3
