It is really rare to see a piece like this. This segment from CBS is an in-depth look at one of the struggles at the very heart of the disability rights movement: the fight - and the right - to live outside the walls of an institution. Specifically, it focuses on what's happening right in our own backyards: Illinois houses more people with disabilities in state-run institutions, and spends more running them, than all but four other states. In tandem with compelling stories of people with disabilities actually impacted by the lack of federally-mandated services and supports, the data is clear. "We need more choices. It is a civil rights issue." https://lnkd.in/edX6xeu9
