Closing a chapter on a leadership journey is never easy. It’s tough to step back after pouring so much passion, energy, and heart into something and to let others take the baton. Leadership isn’t just about the time spent or the goals achieved; it’s about the relationships built, the challenges faced, and the growth experienced along the way. While it’s hard to say goodbye to Engage Dallas, I’m grateful for every lesson learned and every person who has been part of this journey. Though this chapter is ending, the impact will continue to shape my path forward. There’s a deep sense of fulfillment that comes from seeing their efforts and their hospitality directly contribute to the school’s success. It strengthens their connection to the school and its community, and reinforces their purpose as the institutions highest form of volunteer. When you do something meaningful for an organization you care about, it’s more than just duty—it’s a source of pride and personal joy. That’s the true reward of leadership. What have you asked your board members to do this fall?

The Erickson School of Aging Studies and the University of Maryland Baltimore County are excited to begin the New Year as a program partner with LeadingAge, UNCF, Next50, and LTSS, UMass Boston, to develop a Leadership Diversity Fellowship pilot program. This innovative project and collaboration embodies UMBC’s vision of inclusive excellence and the Erickson School’s commitment to preparing the next generation of leaders to meet the challenges in senior housing and care created by the global longevity economy.
