How fast does a strawberry make roots? These plants have been planted last Friday, so less than a week ago. And already you can see the roots forming! At the beginning it is crucial to monitor the substrate, that it is not too wet. Only a few drops of water should come out from the substrate, when pressing the sample. If the substrate is too wet, the roots are not developing as they should. The roots need air to develop and if the air spaces are filled with water, there is not enough air. Also, it is important to monitor the EC of the substrate. The plants do not use that much nutrients in the beginning, even though obviously some nutrients are needed. #strawberry #nutrients #substrate #greenhouse #HAMK #thebettermakers #maailmanparastajat #advising #consulting #finnishhorticulture #horticulture #roots

🌿 We Had To Do It 🌿 Let's just say we had to prune it for growth We had to make a tough decision on the farm. Firstly, how our beloved pawpaw tree started flourishing in its current location, I do not know. Bang along a walkway, we agreed to leave it alone and let it be. Then we realized that our beloved pawpaw tree had grown too many branches, and we knew it would either slow down fruiting or give us smaller fruits. Though it was painful, we had no choice but to remove some of the branches. Sometimes, growth requires letting go of what’s holding us back. Just like this tree, we must prune the excess in our lives to thrive and reach our full potential. Here’s to embracing change and making room for new and healthy growth. Letting go can be tough, can you relate? ------------------------------------------------- To shop our certified organic produce, please WhatsApp a message to: Ms Idowu wa.me/2349017170757 Mr James wa.me/2348035355714 Hotline wa.me/2348166815555 Thank you ------------------------------------------------- #Organicfarm #FarmLife #OrganicFarming #GrowthMindset #NatureLessons #PawpawTree #PruningForGrowth

It's Farmer Friday again - thought I'd share why we decided to raise pigs the way we do 👉 in the forest. Pigs are smart. Scary smart. Heritage pigs like these? On a whole notha level. That's why my hubby and I can't fathom the way that most farmers raise pigs these days. In small little muddy pens - no stimulation, fed as much as possible to grow them as quickly as possible, pumped full of antibiotics. I get it, there's a lot of people in the world to feed. Bacon is delicious. But since we are lucky enough to have the land to grow for ourselves, we felt their living conditions could be better, much better. So off my hubby went to create an acre paddock for them in the woods. What we witnessed was incredible. These pigs had an intricate highway through the bush all leading to different spots they favoured. The sunny grassy area where they would chill, the muddy bog where they would roll around and a hidden path to the den they made under a bunch of fallen logs with grass they scavenged for bedding. These pigs were wild - they'd probably eat ya if you weren't careful. I mean they grew to 350lbs each eventually. I think it's so important to understand where our food comes from and to grow everything, whether it's veggies, eggs or meat, the most natural way possible. These pigs we raised did go 'off to market' but they were happy, healthy and free for their entire lives. __________________________ I love to share stories about my farm - have questions? Good point about harvest frequency.
One of the bigger mistakes I see homesteaders and vegetable gardeners make is not harvesting frequently. For instance, maybe a few green beans seem ready to harvest, but there's not enough of them to make a side dish for dinner...so you let those beans sit on the plant. Unfortunately, not only are those unpicked beans likely to get tough and difficult to eat, but when you don't pick veggies when they are ready to be harvested, this sends a signal to the plant that it's time to stop growing. The plant now believes it's nearing its mission in life: to reproduce. It starts focusing on grwing seed, and slows down or stops its creation of food for humans. So next time you're out in the garden and see plants ready for picking, be sure to take the time to harvest them. These small harvests make winderful snacks or salad additions, anyway! 😊

$13 for a 2-pack!? Nope!! Skip the store-bought lettuce seedlings and go for the seeds! 🌱 Buying seed packets gives you more variety, control, and ensures healthier, non-chemically treated greens. Lettuce is one of the first plants I suggest beginners grow. It’s fast growing and can tolerate a wide variety of conditions making it perfect for newbies. Plus, there’s something truly rewarding about nurturing your own garden from start to finish. Be kind and grow your own food. Peace and love, https://lnkd.in/dqfTAT2v
