What Patient Flow and Traffic Jams Have in Common 🚦 Recently, I’ve been learning about queuing theory and compression waves—concepts often used in logistics and traffic management. But they’re just as relevant to something I see daily in the NHS: patient flow. Small inefficiencies in patient movement can ripple through the system, much like a single bottleneck on the road can cause miles of traffic. This is where portering can play a critical role in keeping things moving smoothly. By analysing how our service interacts with patient flow, I’ve started to identify areas where we can improve, such as: Reducing Delays: Ensuring timely transfers to avoid bottlenecks in wards or diagnostics. Improving Communication: Creating clearer lines of communication between teams to coordinate movements more effectively. Anticipating Peaks: Using data to predict busy times and allocate resources accordingly. These small adjustments can make a big difference—not just for patients waiting for care, but for staff working to deliver it. I’m excited to explore how we can implement these ideas in our portering service to support smoother patient flow across the hospital. For those working in healthcare, I’d love to know how your team contributes to improving patient flow. What’s worked well for you? 💬👇

The eye is…complicated, but how we learn about it doesn’t have to be. That’s why we launched “Office Hours with Dr. Hashad,” a consumer-friendly video series featuring our Chief Medical Officer Yehia Hashad MD. This isn’t meant for eye care professionals steeped in the science; rather, it’s meant for anyone who wants to learn about one of our most important organs in an accessible and engaging way. Simple and straightforward is our goal. Each lesson will be five minutes or less and cover various diseases and conditions. We begin with an intro to the eye, and the basic concept of how we see. #SeeBetterLiveBetter #VisionCare #OptometryEducation #OphthalmologyEducation #EyeCareLeaders
