On January 20, we celebrate the life and legacy of a man who dreamed of a world where equality, justice and love prevail. Dr. King’s trailblazing efforts, from the Montgomery Bus Boycott to his Nobel Peace Prize win, continue to inspire us to this day. In 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed Martin Luther King Jr. Day into law, and in 1986, the nation’s first observance took place with marches, parades and vigils. Today, we carry on his call to action by serving others and working toward a more inclusive and just society. As we reflect on Dr. King's dream, let’s honor it through action.

Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I reflect on his enduring wisdom and the call to action embodied in his words: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." These words resonate profoundly in a world where systemic inequities persist and demand our collective effort to dismantle. Dr. King reminds us that justice is not isolated—it is interconnected. When we fail to address injustice in one place, we allow its ripple effects to erode the fabric of equality and human dignity everywhere. As we navigate today’s challenges, including contentious political climates and a landscape of growing division, his words compel us to rise above complacency, take bold action, and uphold the values of fairness, compassion, and unity. Let this day be a moment to honor his legacy not just with remembrance but with renewed commitment to the principles of equity and justice in our everyday lives.
