Will Ahmed, Founder/CEO of WHOOP launched his company in 2012 and had version 1.0 out in 2015. As founders, we often rush to push out a product and validate demand. While everyone’s timeline is different, my conversation with Will highlighted 3 important points: 1) Never settle with a founding team that isn’t willing to spend long hours and expect failure at the first few iterations. 2) Building a sticky product requires you to be genuinely interested in the well-being of your customers. 3) ARR is a great metric, but seeing strangers use your product is an even better one.

How did you grow into your current role as CEO? ✏️ As a software engineer, my journey towards founding my own company involved several key steps. Initially, I demonstrated strong technical skills and leadership qualities while working as the lead engineer at Elgia. This role provided me with valuable experience in managing projects, mentoring team members, and making critical technical decisions. As I excelled in my role, I began to envision the possibility of starting my own venture. I actively sought opportunities to innovate and develop new ideas, laying the groundwork for what would eventually become my own company. Over time, I honed my entrepreneurial skills and sought out mentors who could provide guidance and support as I navigated the challenges of starting a business. I leveraged my technical expertise to develop innovative solutions and create a compelling business plan. With dedication, perseverance, and a clear vision for success, I launched my own company, leveraging my experience as a software engineer to guide its growth and development. My journey as a software engineer provided me with the technical foundation and leadership skills necessary to establish and lead my own successful venture.

One of the aspects of this pitch that resonated the most with me was how organized the pitch was. Each slide was clearly presented with the main features being incorporated at each time to reinforce the overall solution. Besides having all the supporting evidence, I found their argument to be very compelling. Based on their numbers and figures, they also proved how they could keep themselves in business. Not only did they have a solution in which they proved was a big problem but kept innovating to keep enhancing their solution. Not only were they focusing on providing service to Tempe, but also reaching cities across the United States. https://lnkd.in/gFuNGhZZ

The median number of days between venture rounds hit all-time highs in 2023. Today, the gap between a priced seed and Series A stretched to 679 days - over 1.8 years. Some founders I've spoken to are intentionally pushing out milestones to control cash burn. They're developing contingency plans to buy enough runway or trim expenses before hitting projections. But there's good news. Round intervals are likely to plateau in 2024. After that, off to the races.
