Black history is expansive. Yet, so much of it isn’t taught in schools. To really honor Black history, we must be committed to learning year-round about the history, the heroes and the honest truth. 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: Black culture carries the weight of a complex and often painful history, including the struggles against slavery, colonisation, and systemic racism. It serves as a testament to the resilience, strength, and resistance of Black communities, honouring the achievements and contributions of those who came before. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡? Together, let's honor the history that is often overlooked and pay tribute to those who have made a lasting impact on the world with their influence. Black History Month is not only a time for reflection, but also an opportunity to celebrate diversity and advocate for a more inclusive future.

I encourage you to reread the quote below from Karyn Parsons, and really allow it to sink in.
🗓️ Thanks to the leap year, we got an extra day to celebrate Black History Month and share one last powerful quote with you all! I want to give a shoutout to all of you who have liked, loved, supported, or sent me DMs or texts expressing how much you appreciated these quotes. Your support means the world to me! As we close out this month, I want to leave you with this thought-provoking quote from Karyn Parsons: “Black history isn’t a separate history. This is all of our history, this is American history, and we need to understand that. It has such an impact on kids and their values and how they view black people.” Let's remember that Black history is American history and it's important that we all take the time to learn, appreciate, and celebrate the incredible contributions of Black Americans. #blackhistorymonth #blackhistory #quoteoftheday

As we honor Black History Month, it's important to acknowledge the unfortunate reality that some people in America are resistant to discussing our history and even attempt to ban books. However, we must recognize that without reflecting on where we have been, we cannot hope for a truly bright and inclusive future. Black history is a tapestry of resilience, triumph, and progress, and it has shaped the world in countless ways. From the groundbreaking achievements of icons like Tina Turner, who defied all odds to become a legendary musician, to the historic presidency of Barack Obama, the first African American to hold the highest office in the United States, Black culture has consistently shaped, enriched, and inspired our society. This month, let's celebrate the incredible contributions of Black individuals throughout history and embrace the power of their stories. By acknowledging and appreciating Black history, we pave the way for a more inclusive future, where diversity is celebrated, and equality is a reality for all. Together, let's strive for a society that is rooted in understanding, respect, and unity. #BlackHistoryMonth #CelebrateDiversity #HistoryMatters

Sister Cities Project aligns with the growing number of voices who want to honor Black History and say, every February, that "Black History is American History". We honor, respect, consider and reflect on Black History in our work, year 'round. History influences where we are today with equality and indicates how much work there is still yet to do in creating a world where equality is the norm. Limiting the history we are exposed to, creates a blindness to our challenges. Please Join us in learning more about Black History Month and honoring Black Excellence and contributions throughout history. As an Ally, you can stay the course and continue to be open to learning about all Black history in order to address systemic systems that are barriers to equality. When Carter G. Woodson established Negro History week in 1926, he realized the importance of providing a theme to focus the attention of the public. The intention has never been to dictate or limit the exploration of the Black experience, but to bring to the public’s attention important developments that merit emphasis. This years Theme is about the African Americans and the Arts. Please read about what this means in the link here.https://https://lnkd.in/gQcPbja
