The link between teacher stress and expulsion in early childhood is clear. To truly solve the issue of suspension an expulsion in early childhood, we need to look at it from a systems perspective. Teachers are often blamed for biased decision making, but this data indicates that teachers who are overworked or undersupported play a key role. This brings the blame off teachers alone, and into programs and districts. If we want to decrease expulsion, we need to fully support our teachers to do the incredible work that is required. This is how we help children thrive.
"When teachers screened positive for depression, they were expelling children at twice the rate." Mental health support for our early childhood workforce, and teachers everywhere, is critical to allow infants, toddlers and children to thrive. We're thrilled to have Dr. Walter Gilliam, a leading light in early childhood development, joining us as a plenary speaker for the LEARN Conference. 🔍 Join us in Long Beach to: - Explore cutting-edge research on early childhood education and intervention policy analysis. - Learn about the research behind the mental health and well-being of early childhood professionals. - Gain insights into improving mental health and quality in pre-K and child care services. As we conclude our series on the 8-pillars, let's focus on two critical aspects: 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 and 𝐧𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝'𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭. Both are vital for your well-being and your child's development. 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞: Taking care of yourself is not a luxury—it's a necessity. As a parent raising a child with autism, you have a lot on your plate. Prioritizing self-care helps you stay balanced and effective. Make time for activities that rejuvenate you, whether it's a hobby, exercise, or simply a quiet moment with a book. Remember, you can only pour from a full cup. 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭: Every child has unique strengths and talents. Discovering and nurturing these abilities can boost your child's confidence and provide them with a sense of purpose. Whether your child shows an interest in music, art, sports, or any other activity, support their passion. Celebrate their achievements, no matter how small, and encourage them to pursue what they love. Combining self-care with nurturing your child's talents creates a harmonious environment where both you and your child can thrive. By taking care of yourself, you’re better equipped to support your child's journey and help them reach their full potential. Keep up the great work, and remember, you’re not alone on this journey. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

Expert in Neurodiversity & Trauma | Counsellor, Life Coach, Consultant | Fostering Healing and Understanding
I recently had lunch with an old friend, and we delved into deep conversation – sharing our experiences, the challenges we've overcome, and our hopes for our children's futures. It was a moment of connection, rooted in our shared histories of trauma, highlighting our mutual resolve to end the cycle of abuse and ensure a stable future for our children. This resolve illuminated my path in parenting and influenced my decisions… from choosing homeschooling to prioritizing emotional well-being. Even when faced with the complex educational needs of my neurodivergent children, each challenge underscored the importance of parenting with awareness and empathy. Looking back at my own childhood, shadowed by emotional abuse and a struggle for self-confidence, I now see clearly how crucial healing and self-discovery have been. The journey through therapy was tough but revealing, showing me the way to break free from the cycles of abuse and empower my children with a foundation built on strength and compassion. My friend and my shared experiences of hardship and resilience carry a transformative power. They underscore that healing is more than a personal quest – it's a legacy we create for our children. We all have the choice to make a similar decision in our own lives. We can hold onto the significance of ending harmful cycles, encouraging personal growth, and building a nurturing, loving environment for the generations to come. Therapy saved me – and helped my children have a different experience. This is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about what I do. If you’d like to explore how I can help you, I invite you to schedule a complimentary discovery call with me at StacyFinch.com. #BreakingCycles #HealingJourney #TraumaInformedParenting #NeurodiversitySupport #MentalHealthAwareness #LegacyOfHealing #ParentingWithPurpose #TherapistInsights #EmotionalHealth #Resilience

Things are going wrong at school for your child and you don’t know what to do. School is saying one thing but your instincts (and your child) are telling you something else. You feel torn – and in the middle of it all is your child, increasingly unhappy. You might have been told to make home less pleasant, or perhaps that you must keeping making them go in or they’ll get more anxious. You’ve got some misgivings but they explain the logic and it seems to make sense. You keep going – but it just doesn’t get better. What then? This week I have my best-selling mini-courses relating to school on sale, just until Sunday. There’s My Child Is Not Fine In School – suitable for all families whose children just aren’t thriving at school and who are being told that they must be firmer. You’ll gain an understanding of what might be going wrong, you’ll understand the interventions which are being suggested, and you’ll learn how to evaluate whether an intervention might cause harm or not. Then there’s two which are specifically for PDA/Autistic children and teens. After School is about school trauma – does it really exist, what is it and what can you do about it? Burnt Out By School is more focused on teenagers and is for those young people who just don’t seem to have anything left. They might be spending all their time in their bedrooms, or they might have totally lost any joy they have in life. You and they might be in despair. All of the mini-courses are split up into short digestible modules. They all combine psychological theory with practical ideas as to how parents can help. Feedback from participants include: "This session with @naomicfisher was really great. After months of lonely battling to support a child who can't go to school, I'm going to sleep more hopeful." "Really thoughtful and informed session this evening from @naomicfisher. Many of us parents who have been blamed and alienated through our child's extreme distress and non -attendance at school are finally feeling hope for a positive future." "This is one of the best courses I have been on. The voice of reason and over 200 parents thinking “I feel heard”." Get them half price until Sunday here. https://lnkd.in/ev6yGw3h
