Child advocate attorney, civil litigator for abuse survivors, expert in child protection/child safety, child abuse and trauma
Children who experience Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) like abuse or neglect are at a higher risk for health problems as adults, including mental illness, substance abuse, and chronic diseases. They are also statistically more likely to be victimized again. As adults we can provide protective factors to help ensure a brighter future. #ChildAbusePreventionMonth #childadvocate

Supporting parents who have a child with an eating disorder. Wellbeing Expert. Making a difference to the mental and emotional wellbeing of individuals and teams.
What stories are you stuck in in your brain? When our daughter had an eating disorder, mine included fear, blame, being a rubbish parent, and not knowing what to do. Seeing the thoughts your brain has created can help you step out of their story, like stepping into the eye of a tornado. You can see the thoughts whirling around you, but you discover they are not you. You are the calm without the stories. Parents who work with me learn how to put down the stories that aren’t helpful and tell stories that support their child’s recovery. Supporting parents who have a child with an eating disorder. Wellbeing Expert. Making a difference to the mental and emotional wellbeing of individuals and teams.
When our daughter was struggling with an eating disorder, I felt both blame and guilt. I spent hours worrying about what we had done wrong and what we should have done differently. I now know that an eating disorder is no one's fault; no one is to blame. They arise for any number of reasons, and they are not deliberate. One of the first steps on the recovery journey is to accept ‘this is where we are’, no one is bad or wrong, and we have all been doing our best with what we know. As a parent, you are likely to do this a long time before your child can. Leading the way is a big deal. Can you tell the difference between a 9-year-old with generalized anxiety disorder and a 9-year-old who’s just a bit worried about Friday’s science test, the big soccer game after school, and a new babysitter that evening? What kinds of questions do you ask the children and tweens in your care to understand their risk for anxiety? After all, many younger youth struggle to articulate how they’re feeling. Read this month’s latest blog, Navigating Anxiety in Tweens: A Guide for Professionals.

Supporting parents who have a child with an eating disorder. Wellbeing Expert. Making a difference to the mental and emotional wellbeing of individuals and teams.
What do you most want for this year? When our daughter was struggling with an eating disorder, all I really cared about was her recovery. Her illness not only impacted her, it impacted the whole family. We were exhausted, scared and isolated. Changes in season sometime simply pointed out how slow things seemed to be going. The saying goes, If you want something to change you need to change something. My Awesome parents Programme starting a week today is for parents who want to understand how to think a bit differently and help their child a bit more. You are not to blame for your child’s eating disorder, you haven’t done anything wrong and this programme will help you to feel better, communicate better and support your child’s recovery more easily. DM me if you want to know more. Let me help you to make this year better. #eatingdisorders #eatingdisorderrecovery #hope
