Following on from our successful IWD campaign in March and April, we will continue to spotlight different stories from our St John family. Today’s profile is Steven Wilson, Head of Chancery of the Order of St John at the St John International (SJI) Office. "I have held the position of Head of Chancery of the Order of St John for six years, and it has three main areas of responsibility: Honours and Awards, Ceremonial, and Unrecognised Orders. On Honours and Awards I am responsible for the administration and management of the Order’s honours and awards process. This includes acting as the Secretary to the Order Honours and Awards Committee (OHAC), which meets four times per year and considers nominations for admission to and promotion within the Order from some of the Priories, all of the Associations, the Eye Hospital Group, and the Central Roll. Three times per year, I manage the list of nominations and promotions, which I send to the Grand Prior for approval and The King for Sanction. This is known as The King’s List, and as the Sovereign never adds a date to any signature on a document it is my duty to add the date when I think the Sovereign signed the list. This is called the sign manual, and it is the date of seniority for all admissions and promotions in the Order. On Ceremonial, I am currently editing a St John Ceremonial Manual, which will be a guide to help all ceremonial officers, from large St John Priories to small Associations on how to run ceremonies including investitures, installations, and the dedication of assets. The manual will be published in 2025 in book form and will also be available online. Unrecognised Orders are so-called orders that have adopted some aspects of our history, use St John or Hospitaller in their name, or the Amalfi cross in their logo. They blur the boundaries of the St John family brand and pose a threat by confusing volunteers, donors, and the wider public. I chair the Unrecognised Orders Monitoring Group, which has representatives from the Priories and Associations. This enables us to monitor their activities in all our territories and take legal action to oppose them when necessary. What I like most about my job is being able to make a difference. To look at all the processes and outputs that I am responsible for and make incremental changes for improvement and modernisation. For example, I was responsible for introducing the Service Medal in Gold to the Order. It was a very proud moment when the late Queen Elizabeth II wrote back to me with an ‘approval’ for the medal." *** We would love to share your St John story, get in touch for more information! #OneStJohn

7 years of collaboration between Philanthropy and Government to bring this remaking to life
Delighted we can now share this exciting news about the largest gift ever made to an Australian performing arts centre. The Ian Potter Foundation has made a profound impact to Melbourne, particularly in the arts, and this $15m gift is yet another example of their visionary philanthropy. We are looking forward to unveiling the Ian Potter State Theatre when it reopens in 2027, following its refurbishment. A huge thank you to the Ian Potter Foundation Governors and staff for this extraordinary gift.

Case study alert! One of the best aspects of the AIM New Stories New Audiences grant programme has been how transformational it's been for smaller museums, in terms of organisational working AND participant outcome: https://lnkd.in/eSt2Cbbq

This time of year I think a lot about organizations that help others and how it can be difficult for them to get the word out to the general public. For example, https://lnkd.in/emms3Ghd Much is being done to raise awareness for our Veterans like the amazing National World War II museum in New Orleans. But there are far too many Americans that are simply unaware of foundations, museums, even the Library of Congress' efforts to preserve and tell Veterans' stories. The competition for the general public's attention is fierce. That's why I want to take the stories to where the general public is - to airports, schools, sporting events, concerts, fairs, tradeshows, visitor centers, and everywhere the public gathers. To quickly setup popup galleries with a dozen or more framed interactive displays. The goal? To generate awareness and tell Veterans' stores where people gather. Displays built or assembled in America to honor Americans that can quickly be moved from place to place. To be at events spreading awareness. Over the past two years I have finally completed the design for DiLithium interactive battery-powered displays that will be assembled in Massachusetts. I am currently finalizing ways to build them and to create popup galleries featuring Veterans' stories. I ask for your help, my LinkedIn connections, to help me connect with the organizations and people who think, as I do, that this is important. #VeteransStories #DirectToPublic #BatteryPoweredDisplays #MadeInUSA #DiLithium #Interactive #GoWherePeopleAre #NeverHurtsToAsk

Great to be back again serving as emcee at the 17th Annual Hearts of Texas Luncheon, honoring Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Randy Bowman, Community Partners of Dallas and the Lewisville ISD. Volunteerism transforms lives! Thanks to Volunteer Now CEO, Rachel Currie Triska, for inspiring her incredible team. Americans gave 4.1 billion hours of service to humanity as volunteers last year. There's nothing more impactful than making a difference in the lives of those who need it most. As I share in my keynote address: "Live your life as a go-getter, yet, forever share your life as a go-giver."
