It's unfortunate we live in a time where events like this are more of a norm than an exception. Its so sad. We live in such a broken world with evil all around. I pray that evil stays out of our schools. Many of our customers are implementing metal/gun detectors at the main doors but at a average school there are plenty of other doors that you can get in and get out. One of the things Verkada does to help with keeping doors secure is by providing per door controls, alerts and visibility into what is going on. We can set up alerts for things like tailgating, door held open, door forced open and can tie context of who went in and out for every door at your campus. If you to learn more, connect with us or get with your security integrator and tell them you want to check out Verkada.
As the FBI and state and local investigators continue to sift through evidence in the Apalachee High School tragedy this week, the implementation of panic alarm technology and the locked classroom doors (among the recommendations in the PASS Guidelines) are being credited with lessening the impact of the shooting. “It should be the goal to make sure schools are the safest place. Your kid is outside your home, and they should at least be as safe as places we go to for entertainment," said Jake Parker of the PASS Board of Directors and the Security Industry Association (SIA), to SecurityInfoWatch.com, in this story, sharing other takeaways and information on how the #securityindustry is advocating on #schoolsafety and #schoolsecurity. Important new analysis of the K-12 school shooting database. Definitions and limitations, aside, what's clear is that the firearm injury burden in schools is getting worse. The discussion focuses a lot on secure firearm storage and child access prevention. 👏👏 I'll add that interventions to address youth weapon carriage - in both school and other contexts - are sorely needed.

How can schools improve their emergency response protocols to handle situations involving firearms on or near campus effectively? Greenville High School Shooting Incident: Heightened Security Measures Implemented Greenville ISD Police are investigating a shooting outside the Greenville High School Athletic Facility, where an ex-spouse of a staff member fired a single shot. No injuries were reported. The suspect is still at large, and security has been increased for summer student activities. Key Takeaways: - Enhanced Security Measures: Schools should enforce stricter access control, especially during events and non-regular hours, to prevent unauthorized individuals from posing threats. - Improved Emergency Protocols: Establishing clear and practiced emergency response protocols for incidents involving firearms can ensure quick and effective actions to protect everyone on campus. - Ongoing Security Presence: Maintaining an increased security presence during all school activities, including summer sessions, can deter potential threats and provide reassurance to students, staff, and parents. #schoolsecurity #schoolsafety https://lnkd.in/gfYXZr6A

I understand concerns about removing SROs from schools, but it's crucial to differentiate between two approaches: effective SRO programs and simply placing officers in schools. When programs fail, it's often due to neglecting key principles such as proper training, partnerships, and an encompassing approach! #police #schoolsafety #sro #schoolleaders #schoolsecurity

I remember when you might say “ the kids got gunned down”. A far more accurate description of what happened. I am so sick and tired of saying we can’t solve this problem. If we keep saying there is nothing we can do about this, we are just lying to ourselves. The answer is simple, require guns be registered and only allow people with permits, who have been trained in gun safety, to have them. I know all the reasons why this cannot be done. I don’t care. Our children’s lives are more important. The type of people we choose to be is more important. The Constitution now means whatever result the majority wants it to mean. All I know is that when we fail our youth, we have failed. #guncontrol

This is a developing story. I am interested in hearing the details as they emerge. Specifically: - how was this alleged shooter detected before entry? - what protocols are in place that prevented entry by this person?

Let's just hope the lessons learned from these painful, tragic events are being absorbed and carried out throughout the #securityindustry, regardless of who appears to be at fault. #massshooting #activeshooter #activeshootertraining #schoolsecurity https://lnkd.in/gvt5wziN

Beslan 20th anniversary The deadliest school shooting in history took place over three days starting on September 1, in Beslan in the North Caucus region of Russia. Chechen terrorists seized the school and before it was retaken, 334 people, most children, were dead. School shootings in the US have generally been lone wolf style attacks, but we should remember that terror groups, like lone attackers, study past incidents and learn from them. I can think of no soft target that would invoke more fear than a school attack. Vigilance is our best weapon. If you see something, say something, as stopping an attack before it begins is the best way to stay safe. The slogan “see something, say something” was a direct result of the 9-11 attacks. It was developed by a New York ad agency after law enforcement came to them looking to find a way to enlist the public’s help in finding terrorists. It has become the mantra of school shootings as well, since most attackers broadcast their intentions. It is almost never a surprise. Terror attacks differ, as they try to stay clandestine, but someone knows, or suspects, or has seen behavior that worries them. Visit fbi.gov/survive to learn more.

I find it offensive when a company pretends to have the best cellular service in the United States while knowing their service is subpar. It's crucial to get the most out of your cellular company and ensure the best coverage for essential services like EMS, fire departments, and police departments when needed. Believing that two out of the three companies can fulfill this vital role for our emergency services.
