It has been an absolute pleasure to serve as Chief People Officer for @NHS Greater Manchester since its creation in 2022. But after 38 years in the NHS, retirement is calling. I have another 8 months left and intend to spend that time continuing to support our organisation to be its best, and championing good employment for all our health and care workforce. Enthusiastically empowering others to succeed. Helping hospitals optimize workflows & prioritize people over paperwork with forms automation & eSignature.
Healthcare is one of the many industries that faces staffing shortages. Being short staff makes life harder for the dedicated care team who remains, leaving them with more work and higher demand, but fewer resources to shoulder the responsibilities. Fewer staff + Higher Demand = Burnout 😓, and sometimes unmet patient needs. As Kristin mentions, this problem really needs a multifaceted approach, and Interlace Health can be part of the resolution. Nurses (usually) become nurses to care for patients, not to handle documents and paperwork. With Interlace Health digital forms automation, managing paper is one thing care providers can take off their plates, giving them a bit more space to what they are passionate about, care for their patients. #peopleoverpaperwork #homecare #homehealth

The Integrated Care Model in Senior Living The next generation of solutions for Senior Living will revolve around integrated care models that bring providers, caregivers, family members together to better coordinate care for residents. As the Assisted Living (AL) & Memory Care (MC) space continues to evolve with the population having high levels of acuity there is a need for the senior living community to be the hub for care management. Care management is typically complex in the AL/MC settings. Multiple providers often oversee care of an individual resident. Managing Durable Medical Equipment (DME). Medication, appointments, rehab, transportation and more. Technology will increasingly play a role in the care hub. Integration and interoperability with current technologies including the Resident Care Platform will be essential. Other technologies that provide insights into to the health and wellness of the residents will also play a key role in better long-term health and wellness of the resident. Direct communication with providers through these platforms will aid in the delivery of timely care plans when health risks are identified, including UTI’s, fall risk, cognitive decline, depression, reaction to changes in medication and more. There are a few technology solutions that are beginning to do this work. There is opportunity through some government related programs with IE-SNPs and others. Which technology solutions will be the leaders in delivering these insights? Who will lead this charge – Senior Living Communities, Resident Care Platforms, Providers. The Juggling Act: Balancing Resident Care and Immediate Voice Call Availability At Whistle, we recognize the unique challenges faced by staff in senior living and aged care facilities. That's why we're continuously innovating to create solutions that enhance communication and collaboration in delivering resident care. Staff in senior living facilities dedicate themselves to resident well-being, often at the expense of immediate call availability. Family members, friends, and healthcare professionals calling about loved ones can become anxious and frustrated when they can't reach the right person. This situation has a ripple effect: missed messages and delays create a sense of disconnect and raise concerns about loved ones' care. Frustrated callers may escalate issues to head office, adding unnecessary stress to the situation. When upset family members finally connect and vent their frustration on staff, it leads to tension and negativity for everyone involved. These communication breakdowns ultimately detract from the positive and trust-filled environment everyone strives for. Addressing missed calls proactively helps prevent a domino effect of negative experiences. By tackling this challenge head-on, we can ensure a smoother, more positive experience for staff, families, and ultimately residents. Coming Soon: Whistle Voicemail Never miss a message: When a phone call goes unanswered, Whistle Voicemail will alert all logged-in staff until the message is heard. Track who has actioned each message, eliminating duplication in follow-ups. Notifications will keep messages top-of-mind for logged-in staff, even during shift changes. Facilities will be able to record custom voicemail greetings to suit their needs. Manage message responses and retention, enable or disable the feature by facility. This upcoming feature empowers senior living staff to prioritize resident care while fostering a more responsive relationship with family and friends. (Final) Observation #7 from attending Home Care 100 this month: Providers need to start thinking holistically about whether they have "Provider-Caregiver Fit", if they are serious about solving the worsening caregiver shortage. A Provider executive approached me at HC100 about Arya's automated caregiver incentives and rewards product, because they believed better rewards and recognition were *the* solution for greater caregiver satisfaction. Exciting (for me). But.... I did something nerdy after the conference. I went to this Provider's Careers page and ran the Job Description for a region through a text analysis algorithm to see how much they emphasized 8 different things caregivers value. I then bumped this up against the results of an ongoing *large* survey we are running, called "What do caregivers want?". I then analyzed the same 8 things from the caregivers' perspective, in the same region. The results: The Caregiver cares deeply about Pay and Benefits (obviously), and the Provider prides itself on competitive pay and benefits. ✅ But The second most important thing the Caregiver cares about is "Flexible Work Schedule". The Provider? They are looking for people who can work near full-time regularly. ✋🏽 And where does recognition and appreciation (very highly ranked for the Provider) rank for the Caregiver in this region? Not highly at all. This Provider does not have Provider-Caregiver fit, in that their values don't align well with what the caregiver values. Till they get to better fit, they will keep churning caregivers. The #1 thing they could do to attract- and keep- caregivers in this region would be to offer more dynamic work options to match the flexibility desired by caregivers. I advised the Provider to solve for flexibility, before they solved for rewards and recognition in this region. Caregiver satisfaction and retention may be measured by a singular metric. But to make these better requires treating Provider-Caregiver fit as a multi-modal problem, needing multi-modal solutions. #homecare #homecareagencies #HC100 #homecare100 #homehealth
