Are you finding recruiting and retention difficult? Maybe it’s time to improve perceptions of leadership. We intuitively know that employees’ perceptions of leadership affect recruiting and retention, but how so? In our 2023 survey, we asked people about leadership and whether they would recommend that a friend work at the organization. The latter is our proxy for retention. We correlated our answers to our proxy question with whether employees: • Trust leadership • Think leadership models good behavior • Believe leadership cares about them • Consider leadership to be effective The results, while not surprising, are profound. If they answered the above in the negative, roughly half of employees would not recommend working at the organization. Bluntly stated, this means if perceptions of leadership are bad, about half of them could be critical of the organization to potential recruits and may themselves be looking for employment elsewhere. #leadership #retention #companyculture

Many challenges in organisations today stem from inadequate leadership and management. Exceptional leaders inspire employees to reach their full potential, while poor managers drive them away, leading to high turnover. Greg Savage notes that most employees don’t leave jobs just for money, nor do they quit on a whim or in anger. They joined because they believed it was the right fit and wanted it to work out. Something along the way changed that. If you dig into their real reasons for leaving, you’ll find it’s not “the company” they blame, but the leadership. For recruiters, this insight is crucial. By understanding the impact of leadership on employee retention, you can better match candidates with organisations where they’ll thrive. Iconic Recruit doesn’t just fill positions— they place candidates where they can truly succeed. Marton Volep Leah Grosse Gary Lowe Amanda Miron #IconicRecruit #Leadership #StaffRetention

Managing and retaining high-performing employees is essential for successful leaders. Although this article is coming from the context of business, this should be a goal in K-12 and Higher Ed. Institutions. If "leaders" are insecure, there is NO WAY they will manage and retain high-performing employees adequately. Trust me, I have witnessed and experienced it firsthand. If only leaders used Jesus as the ultimate example of authentic leadership. Here are ten examples: 1. Stay focused on the vision and share it often with the team. 2. It's not about you as much as it is about those who you are equipping. 3. Communicate expectations and come alongside those you lead to build trust. 4. Equip the team and get out of the way so they can walk in their skill set and gifting. 5. Your goal is to coach your way out of your job. Be the kind of leader that others want to be and that you are trying to replicate and send off to be promoted. 6. If you are leading well, being a control freak is not on the table. 7. Be vulnerable (High Emotional Intelligence) with your team. 8. You will have at least three flawed, high performers who will question you, deny you, and betray you, but you picked them. Think Thomas, Peter, and Judas. These high performers are necessary because they will keep you on your toes and remind you that although you may be the best leader, you will always have a few who will respond to you in human ways. 9. Be secure with yourself to trust the process. 10. Serve your team with empathy and integrity, and the high-performing employees will be compelled to do the same.
