We had a wonderful meeting theme: World Food Day! Not a good choice for those who haven't had lunch and had to listen to mouth-watering impromptu descriptions of favorite meals (breakfast burrito), snacks (savory vs sweets), drinks (Dirty Lemon Martini), and restaurants. The two breakfast recommendations in Fullerton is worth mentioning: 1. Early Bird - Order the "real Deal" Holyfield Steak and eggs if you dare. 2. Monkey Business Cafe, serves breakfast and lunch, while providing marketable employment skills to foster and at-risk youth. Can you share your favorite food or restaurant?

As an architect, I approach a food desert phenomenon by organizing big pieces of the puzzle. I am asking what are physical characteristics of various food desert environments and, consequently - how to prioritize and negotiate major obstacles to help individuals and communities to get on the path to food security and eventually, embrace "food is medicine" paradigm. In this day and in this culture ~Kitchen Skills~ is the answer. I am following The Teaching Kitchen Collaborative. This is their mission.
🎉 FREE WEBINAR!!! 🎉 Wednesday, May 8th, 12pm ET - Transforming Essentials: Chef Amber's Guide to Thriving in Food Deserts. Chef Amber Williams, author, renown chef, and business owner, blends her Texas upbringing and Louisiana heritage into her Creole Fusion catering business, Le Rouge Cuisine. Raised in Oak Cliff, a food desert, Amber's early experiences with food scarcity shaped her cooking philosophy and career. Amber authored "Surviving the Food Desert," a cookbook featuring inventive recipes using common food drive items, aiming to bridge the educational gap on preparing nutritious meals from such ingredients. Her mission extends to creating a resource hub for culinary education, particularly for those unfamiliar with cooking their drive box contents. During this webinar, she seeks to raise awareness about food deserts, enhance culinary education, and foster partnerships with food activists to leverage using food as a tool for improving lives. REGISTRATION is REQUIRED: https://lnkd.in/eW6iTcvB **A recording will be sent to all who registered. 1.0 CPEU pending for dietitians who attend the webinar live.** #tkc #teachingkitchens #nutritiousmeals #fooddeserts #foodjustice #foodactivism #cannedgoods #howtocook #learntocook

The Importance of Community: Building Connections for Mamas and Toddlers In today’s fast paced world, the value of community and connection is more significant than ever especially for mothers and their little ones navigating life in a new country. It is in spaces like our meetups where mamas and toddlers come together to build relationships and friendships that can truly transform their experiences. Creating Connections: These gatherings foster an environment where mothers can share their triumphs and challenges, allowing them to find solace in knowing they are not alone. The friendships formed here extend beyond playdates; they create a support network built on shared experiences and common goals. Building Social Skills for Toddlers: For our little ones, these interactions are vital to their social development. Playing alongside peers teaches them essential skills such as sharing, empathy, and communication all while building a sense of belonging. Cultural Exchange: In a multicultural setting, children grow up appreciating diversity and learning from one another. These interactions enable them to understand different perspectives, fostering open-mindedness from a young age. Support and Empowerment for Mamas: For mothers, this space is not just about the children; it’s also about empowerment. Sharing strategies for coping with the challenges of mothering, adapting to a new culture, and balancing family life becomes easier when there is a supportive community to lean on. Embracing New Beginnings: In conclusion, gatherings that bring together moms and toddlers are crucial for building lasting relationships that enhance our community fabric. They nurture a sense of belonging for both mothers and children, making the journey of adapting to life in a new country a little lighter and a lot more enriched. It's up to the owners to decide. So, let's keep it simple and honest: "I don't want them in my restaurant" is the truth. Anything else is hard to swallow!
