Black Hole Week Fun Fact: Did you know that a black hole could fit in your pocket? Scientists classify black holes into four types based on their size and mass: • Primordial black holes: Some were as tiny as an atom, while others could be larger, but still incredibly small. • Stellar-mass black holes: These form from the collapse of massive stars and can be up to 100 times the mass of our sun. • Intermediate-mass black holes: Ranging from hundreds to thousands of times the mass of the sun, these are like the Goldilocks of black holes. • Supermassive black holes: These giants can be millions to billions of times the mass of our sun, with the one at the centre of our Milky Way weighing in at over 4 million suns! So next time you're pondering the universe, remember, there might be a black hole out there small enough to fit in your pocket! "As scientists, our minds are influenced by our surroundings, which in turn influences what we pay attention to. As a marine scientist studying within Inuit Homelands, I’m aware that I come not just with sampling equipment and research questions, but also many biases and blind spots." Check out the latest piece from #ArcticFocus on how our field of view influences research.

I just put online one of my most important YT videos, because it is engaged against one of the worst potential ennemies of our species: the hopeless delirium of transhumanism. Progress is good, but the fantasy of immortality has nothing to do with progress, there is no way for us to change the laws of physics and biology https://lnkd.in/esCUN6xi

Are singularities contained in all black holes? All black holes contain singularities. However, according to wtamu.edu, no black holes in the real universe contain singularities. A singularity is a point in space where there is a mass with infinite density. Some physicists say that the singularity in every black hole might give birth to a baby universe. The laws of physics dictate that a central singularity is inevitable inside any black hole. This is because no relativity-obeying force can hold an interior up against collapse. Black holes probably don't have a singularity. The one exception might be another black hole, in which case the two will spiral into one another and merge themselves in an extremely violent encounter.

If lefthanded neutrinos can create mass with the Higgs field, we could upend current theories and perhaps, discover new particles. This is the beauty of science in the pursuit of answers, we keep unearthing more questions! #NewsInPhysics #HiggsField #ScienceQuest

Never responded to one @ via Twitter to date. But perhaps easier to process than some of the other content I post regarding CTPSci sciences direct. Enjoy. And his physics (or even your physics) doesn't really apply much to CTPSci Principles. Enjoy. (https://lnkd.in/ebkBZhuQ) #newscience #propulsion #propulsionsystems

As we start the new year, I'd like to highlight an accomplishment of mine! In one semester, I helped my research group convert an empty room into a fully functioning test cell for our Rotating Detonation Engine, THOR (Turbine-Integrated High-Pressure Optical Rotating Detonation Engine)! THOR speaks, by the way. He says: "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐬 Imagine a stroll through the rolling hills of Cairngorms, Scotland, where a spark of genius strikes. You rush back to the lab, embarking on a journey of research, calculations, and diagrams, and there it emerges: a new theory. Elegant and intriguing, it captures your imagination, yet it remains just a theory without proof, no matter how beautiful or compelling. Year after year, you revisit and pore over your work, knowing it inside out, yet it still stands as a mere hypothesis. Then, at CERN, which came into existence just years after your theory, someone devises an experiment to test your idea. There you are, waiting with bated breath for validation, yet also fearing refutation. The wait is agonizing until the moment arrives: your theory is validated. More than fifty years have passed since that fateful walk, but your unwavering belief never faltered. This was Peter Higgs; this was his story. His legacy teaches us that consistency and patience truly make a difference. #peterhiggs #higgsboson #physicslegend #nobelprizephysics #particlephysics #sciencehero #theoreticalphysics #scientificlegacy #physicscommunity #quantumfieldtheory #standardmodel #cern #largehadroncollider #scientificbreakthrough #higgsfield #massmechanism #cosmicdiscovery #physicsresearch #fundamentalforces #rememberinghiggs (Peter Higgs, credits: Claudia Marcelloni/CERN)
