Going Live: A Retrospective on Ocala Neighborhood Hospital This week marked a big milestone: we successfully went live at Ocala Neighborhood Hospital. Having been part of over a dozen go-lives with the Ascendco platform, I’ve seen it all—from hospitals that were still using paper to those transitioning from outdated systems, and now to brand new facilities built from scratch. Each one brings its own set of challenges and advantages. One thing I've learned through all these experiences is the universal importance of planning. No matter the situation, having all the stakeholders—OR, Supply, Facilities, IT, and Sterile Processing—work closely together is key. It's all about collaboration. The Importance of Planning Planning isn't just about schedules and resources; it’s about using that time to clean up and standardize data. This preparatory stage is crucial. By sorting out data discrepancies and aligning processes early on, we avoid many issues during the go-live. Collaboration is Key Effective communication and teamwork among all departments are essential. Everyone has a role to play, and their input is vital. Regular meetings, clear communication channels, and a mutual understanding of each department's needs and challenges keep us all on the same page. Hitting Critical Dates and Milestones Meeting critical dates and milestones is crucial. These checkpoints ensure we stay on track and can address any issues promptly. A structured timeline with well-defined milestones helps us monitor progress and make necessary adjustments. A Smooth Transition The result of all this planning, data standardization, and collaboration is the smooth, problem-free go-live that Ascendco is known for. When everything is in place, the transition is seamless, and the hospital staff can immediately benefit from the new system without any workflow disruptions. Looking Ahead As we celebrate the success at Ocala Neighborhood Hospital, we also look forward to future go-lives with renewed confidence. Each experience teaches us valuable lessons and reinforces the importance of planning and collaboration. A massive thank you to everyone who attended our Advancing Healthcare Efficiency round table last week. When exploring the topics of data confidence and hospital productivity, two things were abundantly clear: there is an incredibly positive appetite for change and doing new things from NHS leaders; and there is a desperate need for the correct investment in both estates and technology. All our attendees echoed the same sentiment: our only hope for tackling waiting lists is to enable organisations to have a positive culture in theatres. Whether this comes from having open dialogue with providers, giving autonomy to frontline theatre staff to manage their stations, or having the correct incentives in place, one thing is for sure - collaborative effort and strategic investment are crucial for driving meaningful progress.
