“Around 8 million UK laying hens spend most of their lives suffering behind bars. Imprisoned in ‘enriched’ cages, these hens have little more space than a sheet of A4 paper each." - Dame Joanna Lumley Our joint petition with Joanna, hosted on the government petitions website, has now passed the 10,000 signature mark, so we're due a written response. While we wait we're pushing ahead to reach the 100,000 signature goal to secure a debate in Parliament. UK citizen or resident? Sign the petition to #EndTheCageAge >> https://bit.ly/40sMw4g

Crisis are right: criminalising homelessness creates more hardship for those already facing tough times. It doesn’t address reasons people face homelessness, or help positive change. It only traps people further into the system. We’ve seen this happen for people we support. The reasons people experience homelessness are complex, and usually follow a series of difficulties – which will just be made harder to resolve. A more compassionate and effective approach would be to properly fund homelessness services that offer immediate, and ongoing, support . We can’t have a society with so many cracks in it, and then stigmatise and punish people when they fall in. It’s approaching the issue from the wrong direction. In the longer term we must create and protect funding streams ringfenced for opportunities and the futures of communities. This year, funding for homelessness services was increased in Wales. Before that, we wrote of the importance of doing this, and of the stories, hard work and differences made that we’ve seen within our own homelessness and crisis projects. You can read more about that here: https://lnkd.in/eP9A8tCv
The UK Government is under pressure to drop new laws that would criminalise homelessness in England and Wales. The Criminal Justice Bill could be debated in parliament in the next couple of weeks. We can win this - now is the time to apply the final pressure to make them scrap these cruel proposals. Email your MP ▶️ https://lnkd.in/eRAwp-qa

Everyone that vandalizes private or public property and harms law enforcement or innocent people should be required by law to pay the full amount for damaged property or medical bills. Tax dollars or private funds may initially pay, but all must be repaid by the aggressor. If they’re not a citizen, deported and banned for life. No exceptions shouid be allowed by law. The mechanism would be their social security number would be garnished for life until repaid, along with any EIN’s or investments. Upon successful prosecution they’re also banned from welfare and all support mechanisms we offer our citizens. Also, what they owe would increase with inflation if it takes more than 1 year to repay. Currently it’s up to Judges, but I think we’ve come to a point where it must be the law of the land similar to required sentencing standards: Generally I don’t support many new laws, we have plenty, but we must have strict and harsh penalities for those set on destroying society. I don’t wish anyone to be trapped paying for their bad choices for life, but these protestors have forced this upon themself. Accountability is healthy for a kind and civilized society. If you’d support this please share. If you think being accountable for your actions is too much please share why. We’re losing everything. #thoughts #lawandorder #police #lawenforcement

🙏Please help🙏 This is another petition that is in risk of being closed because of the upcoming election! https://lnkd.in/e94CzvjX 🛑 🔪 KNIFE 🔪CRIME 🛑is increasing and we need to do something! Currently this petition only has 6349 signatures and needs 10,000to receive a response from the government! The Government can’t respond to petitions during the election period. This means if the petition has over 10,000 signatures, it can’t receive a response from the current Government after 29 May. After the election, the new Government will have to decide whether to respond to petitions from before the election. The current Petitions Committee, the group of MPs who decide whether petitions are debated, won’t exist after 30 May. This means that if the petition has over 100,000 signatures, it can’t be scheduled for debate during this Parliament. After the election, a new Petitions Committee will be responsible for deciding which petitions are debated.

Well done to the new UK Government (Labour) for extending the temporary ban on puberty blockers for children, introduced by the last Government (Conservative), into a permanent ban. This move showcases courage and moral conviction to do the right thing by protecting children and young people, as well as turning an 11th hour ‘electioneering' gimmick, introduced temporarily by the previous Conservative administration, into a long-term solution. An impressive start towards manifesto implementation on issues that actually really do matter. 👍🏼🙌🏼🇬🇧🙏🏼👌🏼😎 #UK #Government #PubertyBlockers https://lnkd.in/eAPcsmqs

Spread the word
We are one of more than 130 organisations calling on the NSW Government to raise the minimum age of criminal responsibility from 10 to at least 14. In NSW, 10 is the age of criminal responsibility. That is too young. The NSW Government needs to do better for kids and communities. Many people don’t know that 10-year-olds can be arrested and sent to lock-up. We can’t change the law without building public support and awareness. Help us to spread the word by sharing this short video. And visit the Raise the Age NSW website to join the campaign and learn more: https://lnkd.in/gdmE2zbX #RaiseTheAgeNSW #HappierTenthBirthday #TenIsTooYoung

The efforts of trial, appellate, and habeas death penalty defense teams (primarily from the State Board of Indigents Defense Servoces) have effectively rendered the Kansas death penalty scheme little more than a symbolic sentence, at the expense of millions of taxpayer dollars. KCADP plays a crucial legislative role in guiding policy change. This is an outstanding opportunity to learn more about the death penalty in general, and the death penalty in Lansas.
The Kansas Coalition Against the Death Penalty will be holding its conference on November 16th - registration is free and it is open to the public! If you are interested in learning about the efforts to repeal the death penalty in Kansas, this is the place to be. Check out their website for more info and to register: https://lnkd.in/gy2k7bTQ

Restorative justice requires those involved - victim and offender - to dig deep into their stories, the impact of the crime committed, and the steps needed to repair and prevent harm. While none of this is simple, it can lead to meaningful accountability, safer communities, and well-being for those involved. Learn more about restorative justice on the Government of Canada’s website: https://lnkd.in/gHcgh2UU #RestorativeJusticeWeek

Successive #governments have used the police to put out political #propaganda and and emasculated in the wake of #BLM as well as #austerity #budget cuts. #twotier policing has not helped. So yes you are right, people do not respect the police. Let them do their job: law enforcement.
