#Tether, the leading stablecoin, outpaces #Goldman Sachs in Q4 earnings, making $2.85 billion. This achievement sparked praise for Tether's efficiency in banking the unbanked. The CEO, Paolo Ardoino, was lauded for investing in Tether and #Bitcoin mining, using profits for further Bitcoin investments. SEC accuses Bitcoin miner Geosyn of defrauding investors of $5.6 Mln Geosyn co-founders Caleb Ward (CEO) and Jeremy McNutt (COO) raised ~$5.6 Mln from 60 investors in 2021-2022 to launch mining farms. The bitcoins mined were supposed to be distributed to the investors. The SEC alleges that the defendants:  • deceived investors about the availability of favourable electricity prices for Geosyn (actual costs were 40-50% higher); • concealed from investors that they did not purchase mining equipment; • spent $1.2 million of the raised money on vacations, weapons and watches.
