This #FallsPreventionAwarenessWeek, and every week, we want to make sure you are safe. Thousands of older adults fall each year due to common, everyday hazards. Make sure your space is safe and help prevent falls by following a few easy tips. 1. Clear the way. Remove tripping hazards, like throw rugs, cords, or clutter on the floor. arrange furniture to create a path for safe movement. 2. Light it up. Turn on lights or use motion activated nightlights to avoid tripping over things you cannot see when getting up at night. 3. Have a seat. Take a break and have a seat when needed. Whether you are getting ready in the morning, or need a quick break after exerting yourself, play is safe and take a seat. 4. Secure Support. Use secure supports while doing everyday tasks. Using railings while navigating stairs or a shower seat and grab bar while bathing can make all the difference. 5. Store for Success. Keep frequently used items between waist and shoulder height, making them easier to access without the need for a stepstool or unsafe reaching. 6. Ask for Help. It's okay to need help when doing things you were once able to do on your own. There is no shame in asking for help when needed. #CaringForYouCompletely starts before you even enter our center.
