Congrats to Donna Sutton for being named Caregiver of the July'24 Month for Complete Homecare Kingston office! Donna States my name is Donna, Ashley’s grammy and caregiver. This photo is a sit/stand frame for people who cannot walk. Ashley was born with muscular dystrophy and 2 1/2 years ago she had a heart transplant to save her life. One downfall after this was her inability to walk. She was in Physical Therapy but wasn’t getting far enough. John, from the durable medical equipment assisted Ashley and her doctors with getting this piece of equipment for her to have at home. She is now able to use this as much as she possibly and has started to rebuild her muscles and hopefully be able to someday walk. One of the many reasons I am sharing this is to let everyone know that dealing with insurance companies is not an easy task, but I am happy to relay to all parents and caregivers don’t give up. We started this process in October 2023 and with the help of one lady named Kim from Ashley’s insurance company and 3 calls from me every week, Ashley finally received her equipment in July 2024. Sometimes it felt hopeless, but my Ashley comes first so I say to all, no matter what it takes, and the time frame just continue to fight for what you need so don’t give up! Wishing all a very happy and blessed day, Donna. . #caregiver #caregiverofthemonth #employeeofthemonth #seniorcare #elderly #senior #elderlycare #homecare #eldercare #caregivers #eldercare #homecareagency #homecareagency #personalcare #nonmedicalhomecare #homehealthcare #aging #CompleteHomeCare #philly #phillydelphia #scrantonpa #kingston #harrisburgpa #pittsburghpa #Pennsylvania

Anyone who's ever cared for an adult is acutely familiar with Respite Care, whether they received it or not. My father was a very accomplished person who ran businesses, was a tough negotiator, served in the Korean War, and finished college in 3 years before getting his MBA at Wharton. Yet, caring for my mother, who had dementia, was the toughest thing he ever had to do. Care for her was at his insistence Respite care, in his case, meant having 25 hours a week to himself - even if he was cleaning or preparing food or on some days, just going for a walk. With my parents living on the East Coast with only 1 of their kids nearby (who's a single mom busy with her own life), having their long-term care policies was the lifeline we all needed. When someone needs care, the focus tends to be on that person, but the caregiver also needs support. Most long-term care policies have a benefit for respite care. #Familycaregivers face many challenges in helping their loved ones who are living with #dementia, not the least of which is navigating the insurance landscape for #longtermcare. That’s according to the results of a newly published study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS), which found that insurance-related challenges contribute to the caregiver burden. https://lnkd.in/exqatxiZ

Caregiver Consultant, Aging In Place Specialist: My Mission -- Decreasing fall risks and improving independence of aging older adults, and Helping family caregivers simplify caring so they can enjoy more of their lives.
I’ve heard the stories too many times! Patients and their families are often left in a state of despair! A few of the reasons for lack of coordination of care that I’ve seen: examples- - Someone at hospital forgot to fax a referral to home health -Homehealth states they did not receive the referral -Someone at hospital asked the patient only if they wanted home health, pt refused because they thought they had to pay for it -Someone in hospital assumed that insurance would not pay, so they never requested a service. -No one followed up, and family still waiting months for therapy that was not received. This doesn’t just pertain to homehealth and therapy, it’s across the board in health care! Notify your physician immediately if you have a need that was not addressed. Anyone have experiences to share? What did you do to get results you needed? It can help others. #stroke #hospitaldischarge #caregiverstress #familycaregiver #dischargeplanning #caregiver #agingparents #caregiving #ot #pt #slp #homehealth #occupationaltherapy #caregiversupport #groupcoaching

October is #LongTermCarePlanningMonth, and a few tips can help people when talking with their loved ones about this topic. Conversations about long-term care can be difficult. Bandana Shrestha बन्दना श्रेष्ठ, AARP Oregon state director, said approaching the topic with compassion and care is key and noted that the 470,000 family caregivers in Oregon provide most of the care for close friends and family members, and need to be part of planning conversations. "Making sure that you're talking early is really important, and also making sure you are involving all parties who may responsible for supporting somebody is really important," Shrestha said. The population of people over age 65 is increasing rapidly in the U.S. and most will need long-term care supports of some kind, underscoring the need to begin planning for how that care will look. Open enrollment for #Medicare began this week and lasts through December 7th. But Shrestha noted the insurance program doesn't cover long-term care. "There are certain provisions within Medicare where you can get some supports for being able to have short stays in long-term care facilities," Shrestha continued. "But otherwise, Medicare is really about your health care. It's your health insurance." Oregon performed well on AARP's recent Long-Term Services and Supports Scorecard, ranking number seven in the nation. Although the state could do better in areas such as affordability, Shrestha says the state ranks high in terms of support for family caregivers. "The reasons for that are policies like our recent paid leave law, which really is designed to help ensure that people have supports and can take time off when they need to care for themselves or for their loved ones," Shrestha said. Disclosure: AARP Oregon contributes to our fund for reporting on Consumer Issues, Health Issues, Livable Wages/Working Families, Senior Issues.

Because we care! Happy National Caregivers to all those who care for others. We see you. We hear you. We care about you. We want to help you. Being a caregiver is an everyday job. Even when you’re not administering meds, changing clogged gtubes, doing wound management, driving to therapy appointments, learning new devices, etc etc You’re still caregiving. You spend hours on the phone battling insurance companies, filling out forms, playing patient navigator between multiple hospitals and multiple providers. Because you care. Being a caregiver is the hardest job most of us have ever had. It’s sometimes the loneliest job. Rewarding in different ways. One of the best parts about building a caregiver focused platform is connecting with families who are caregivers. Today we received this message from a mom who’s been using mejo for her son. Hey mejo, I wanted to share a call I just got from a nursing agency: “Hi ‘Ms Smith’. Can you please send us a document that has every diagnosis, medical conditions, types of specialists, medical needs, and all other pertinent information a nurse would need to know about your son.” She told us, “this would have made me cry before mejo. Thank goodness it’s so easy now. Thank you.” I then asked her. What would you have done without mejo? Her reply, “I would have had 2 choices:” 1. Dig through MyChart and my Google drive and re-read all these documents and pick and choose which ones to send. Decide how much info is too much, but also make sure I have enough info that we don’t get a nurse who we scare off on day 1. I’d easily spend hours. 2. Be so overwhelmed by the prospect of doing that that I instead just sit down and try to write it all out. Manually look up phone numbers of docs and clinics. And be so overwhelmed by it and mad that this the world we live in. My mood for the day would be ruined. This is everything. This is why we are caregiver focused. This is what frustrates us and drives us to build tools for caregivers. We want to save caregivers time so they can spend more joyful moments with those they care for. #caregiverawareness #caregiver #raredisease #digitalhealth
