Most EHS staff do nothing. I agree that’s a bold statement. Take note if you’re a CEO or COO. You have options. I’ll say it again. Most EHS staff do nothing, even your highest level VP of EHS. Hear me out. First, consider EHS staff that are ineffective. They may lack qualifications, experience, drive, and/or management skills, resulting in inefficiency and poor compliance. I talk with EHS staff all the time, and see these numbnuts frequently. They’re apparently ‘hard at work’ and “super busy”. Yet they’re hardly working. While they may actually do things — I’d argue that they do nothing, since the work is not only inefficient but also ineffective in building a culture of safety and compliance. Next, let’s look at effective EHS Managers. I agree, they know their stuff. But since they are effective in building a culture of safety and compliance, then there is nothing else to do other than a few high-end technical reports, which in almost all cases is outsourced to an external EHS consultant outside of your organization. An EHS contracted, subscription service is your future.

3 Key Functions for Top-Performing EHS Programs — Read Brian’s insight here and learn how success is achieved:
Environmental, Health & Safety Compliance Expert | President and CEO, Baron Environmental | Delivering the hassle-free EHS solution
Is your internal EHS Manager bogged down with day-to-day tasks and therefore unable to drive EHS success? Many believe that in-house EHS staff is essential for a successful safety and compliance program. In reality, most EHS Managers find themselves overwhelmed with routine responsibilities: buying PPE, coordinating training activities, and answering basic safety questions, leaving little time for high-level activities that truly make a difference. A different approach is needed; one that focuses on three key functions that set top-performing EHS programs apart: 1) Cultivating a strong safety and compliance culture: This involves training and coaching supervisors and employees to create shared responsibility and accountability for safety and compliance. 2) Preparing complex environmental submissions, such as air emission reports and spill prevention plans: This requires experts with the knowledge and experience to handle all environmental submissions and plans. 3) Proactively adapting to regulatory changes: This necessitates a team that continuously monitors the latest regulatory changes and best practices in EHS. Baron's EHS Long Term Support subscription provides these three key functions. Your supervisors and employees will be empowered to handle day-to-day EHS tasks, while our team focuses on these high-level activities. Our flexible model allows us to either serve as your dedicated EHS provider or work collaboratively alongside your existing EHS staff. We tailor our support to your unique company structure. Challenge the misconception that EHS success relies solely on in-house staffing. What’s a day in the life of EHS at your site? Share in the comments any good items, ongoing challenges, or best practices.

With the future of EHS within manufacturing in mind, Brian is sharing 5 strategies for success:
Environmental, Health & Safety Compliance Expert | President and CEO, Baron Environmental | Delivering the hassle-free EHS solution
The future of EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) in the manufacturing industry is more important than ever to business success as companies face increasing regulatory pressures and the need for a site-wide safety culture. Here's a deeper dive into this critical topic: In the manufacturing industry, EHS staff turnover leads to cyclical challenges. Each new hire must rebuild programs, fill gaps left by predecessors, and re-establish compliance systems. This turnover hinders continuous improvement and leads to inefficiencies and compliance risks. To break this cycle, it is essential for manufacturers to focus on bringing in top EHS performers. These are professionals not just adept at managing compliance but also excel in building a proactive safety and compliance culture. They handle complex environmental regulations and stay current with ever-evolving laws and standards. With the manufacturing sector becoming increasingly competitive, anything less than excellence in EHS management can be costly and wasteful. However, hiring in-house top talent alone is not enough. The future of EHS management lies in innovative solutions such as subscription-based services. For instance, Baron’s EHS Long Term Support subscription offers a comprehensive, hassle-free solution that ensures continuous compliance and safety improvements without the downtime associated with staff turnover. A hybrid approach, combining top-performing EHS professionals with Baron’s subscription service, can provide the best of both worlds. This model ensures that onsite staff can focus on strategic initiatives while Baron handles both the routine and complex compliance tasks. This partnership not only mitigates risks associated with turnover but also leverages external expertise to maintain the highest standard of EHS performance. Key Strategies for Success: 1. Prevent Turnover Challenges: Emphasize the need to hire and retain top EHS talent who can drive cultural change and handle complex compliance requirements. 2. Leverage Subscription Services: Utilize comprehensive services like Baron’s EHS Long Term Support to ensure continuous compliance and mitigate the risks associated with staff turnover. 3. Create a Hybrid Model: Combine in-house expertise with external support to maximize efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and build a strong safety culture. 4. Remain Competitive: Recognize that superior EHS management is not just a regulatory requirement but a competitive advantage in the manufacturing sector. 5. Continuously Improve: Adopt a proactive approach to EHS that focuses on continuous improvement, leveraging both internal and external resources to stay ahead of regulatory changes and industry best practices. By adopting these strategies, manufacturers can ensure that their EHS programs are strong, effective, and aligned with their long-term business goals.

Corporate EHS leaders, it’s time to Tesla-fy EHS at your site locations! Rethink the traditional model of hiring full-time EHS staff at your sites – and consider an electrified, more effective way to manage EHS. For years, outsourcing of IT, HR, and FM (facilities management, e.g., landscaping and janitorial) provided innovative managers access to specialists without any staff overhead. Now, apply this innovative thinking to EHS. The best outsourced EHS solutions have: 1. An all-inclusive service: • For a fixed monthly fee, the service is all encompassing – no exceptions. • Whether it’s environmental reporting, health & safety protocols, industrial hygiene, ISO14001/ISO45001 support, sustainability monitoring – it’s all included. 2. Comprehensive subject matter experts using a team-based approach: • No reliance on any one person at the site nor any one person from the team delivering your service. 3. Flexibility to adapt to your unique company needs and culture. This unique approach eliminates the never-ending headaches associated with EHS staff turnover and loss of safety and compliance culture. All-inclusive subscription services offer uninterrupted support. They build a strong EHS framework and empower supervisors as frontline ‘safety champions’. These models streamline EHS practices across all sites. A subscription service ensures uniform compliance standards and best practices, driving efficiencies and reducing risks. These models seamlessly address all EHS needs. For example: • Complex EHS queries? A dedicated team is always accessible. • New product development? Experts are always available for EHS assessments. • Unannounced agency inspections or urgent concerns? On-site support is promptly provided. At Baron, our EHS Long Term Support subscription embodies this approach, making EHS management a sustainable, long-term solution. Ready to energize EHS at your site locations? Let’s discuss how this model can benefit you and your ongoing EHS efforts. Share your thoughts or reach out directly.

Environmental, Health & Safety Compliance Expert | President and CEO, Baron Environmental | Delivering the hassle-free EHS solution
Question for EHS Directors and Managers out there: Do you know how Baron’s EHS Long Term Support subscription works for you? Answer: Our EHS professionals partner with you as an extension of your team, enabling your ongoing EHS success. Let me walk you through it. Often, a Manager or Director in our field is struggling to get everything done due to: • High turnover in EHS staff • Difficulty finding quality EHS candidates • Lack of management support for hiring EHS personnel We have the solution – and it’s sustainable. Our hassle-free, collaborative EHS subscription allows you to focus on your priorities while we handle everything else. Our team-based approach is a seamless transition, right from day one. Result: You continue to lead the orchestra, while we play the instruments. Here’s some examples of how it works. One of our customers, a contract pharmaceutical manufacturer, was struggling after their Safety Manager left. The Director of EHS was overwhelmed with day-to-day tasks, leaving little time for her strategic initiatives. Despite months of searching for a replacement, she couldn't find the right fit. She turned to Baron. We seamlessly took over the basic EHS tasks, enabling the Director to refocus on high-level projects and initiatives. We managed and coordinated the training programs and regulatory submissions. The Director was once again able to monitor and report on the status of EHS and ESG projects, ensuring timely communication with company stakeholders. Another customer, the Senior Director of EHS and Sustainability for a chemical manufacturer, faced constant turnover in her EHS staff. This resulted in inconsistent compliance and gaps in program management. We stepped in with our EHS Long Term Support, brought them back into compliance, and created a sustainable safety culture across all departments. While the Baron team managed the core EHS elements, the Senior Director of EHS and Sustainability was able to oversee the company’s corporate projects, environmental initiatives, and ISO system implementation. A third example: The EHS Manager at a high-potency API contract research organization struggled to get management support for additional hires. This left him unable to focus on driving the safety culture across multiple departments and throughout the organization. With Baron’s support, we took over the operational EHS tasks, allowing the manager to concentrate on culture, progress, and technical consultations. Interested in learning how we can ease your EHS burden? Let’s chat! Share your thoughts or questions in the comments, or reach out directly.

#copied EHS Manager interview Questions with Answers 1. What is your experience in EHS management? Ans: I have been working in EHS management for over 5 years, with experience in implementing and maintaining EHS management systems, conducting risk assessments and audits, and training employees on EHS policies and procedures. For example, in my previous role at XYZ Manufacturing, I developed and implemented a comprehensive EHS program that reduced workplace injuries by 30% and ensured compliance with OSHA regulations. 1. How do you stay up-to-date with changing regulations? Ans: I regularly review industry publications such as the Occupational Health and Safety Magazine and the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) website to stay informed about changes in regulations and best practices. For instance, when OSHA updated its silica standard, I attended a training session to understand the new requirements and implemented the necessary changes in our company's silica exposure control program. 1. How do you conduct risk assessments and prioritize hazards? Ans: I use the HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) study method to identify potential hazards and evaluate risks. For example, at ABC Chemical Plant, I conducted a HAZOP study on our chemical processing unit and identified potential explosion hazards due to inadequate ventilation. I prioritized this hazard and implemented additional ventilation measures to reduce the risk. 1. What is your approach to incident investigation and reporting? Ans: I follow the root cause analysis (RCA) method to investigate incidents and identify underlying causes. For instance, when a worker suffered a chemical splash injury at our facility, I conducted an RCA investigation and identified inadequate training and inadequate PPE as contributing factors. I implemented additional training and PPE measures to prevent similar incidents. 1. How do you engage employees in EHS efforts? Ans: I believe in empowering employees through training and involvement. For example, at DEF Construction, I established an EHS committee comprising employee representatives from various departments. We meet quarterly to discuss EHS concerns, suggest improvements, and implement employee-led initiatives. 1. How do you measure EHS performance and track metrics? Ans: I use key performance indicators (KPIs) such as total recordable injury frequency rate (TRIFR), lost-time injury frequency rate (LTIFR), and environmental metrics like water and energy consumption. For instance, at GHI Healthcare, I tracked and reduced our TRIFR by 25% through targeted training and hazard control measures. 1. How do you ensure compliance with environmental regulations? Ans: I maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, such as the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. For example, at JKL Manufacturing, I ensured compliance with the EPA's stormwater management regulations by implementing a stormwater control program and conducting regular inspections
