Spent the day revisiting GW for a series of panel discussions on both #AI (which has been around for nearly 60 years!) and #GenAI (which has been around about 18 months). Discussion topics included #horizontaltechnology”, #ingredienttechnology” and what it takes to have #trustworthyAI. Panelists spoke to the #commencement of #continuouslearning post graduation and throughout life, and how #imagination has the edge over #AI. New paper alert! Former Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford MSc student Barani M. and Keegan McBride co-authored research on how Generative AI disproportionately harms long tail users, published in IEEE Computer Society. On disinformation: "In long tail countries (low-resource, fragile, and marginalized countries), where democracies are fragile and media systems tend to be harder to control, it is even more challenging to combat the proliferation of disinformation when GenAI is in use." On who suffers as a result of this disinformation: "GenAI-powered disinformation may also disproportionately target long tail populations, such as women and girls."
